Too good.

Looks like the album cover to a 1970 Top Of The Pops album. Disappointed with the production, it sounded mono (it possibly was) and the fadeouts were a little severe.

But at the end of the day it's Otis. Smooth bastard. My new go-to blues album if I'm ever on the pull again.

Rated 10/10

Considering I already have this album saved on Spotify, it's gotta be a 5. Otis has the greatest voice of all time and the fact that he died at just 26 years old is the biggest tragedy in musical history.

Rated 6/10

A Change Is Gonna Come is a soul classic. Some solid covers but its so foundational that it comes off as sort of bland?

Rated 10/10

Pretty much crushing it on every level.

Rated 8/10

Loved it … great songs performed by one of the greatest soul singers of all time. What more do you want?

Rated 10/10

A timeless soul album, and godDAMN what a voice.

Rated 6/10

„My Girl“. „Wonderful World“ und „Satisfaction“ sind reizvolle Coverversionen bekannter Titel.

I’ve noticed a trend in my reviews where I explain why a very good album doesn’t quite deserve five stars. It is tedious even to me. Yet here we are again: this is cheating. You take one of the greatest soul singers, give him a lineup of great soul songs, and then package it as an album. This isn’t an album the way we understand it. This is a greatest hits, an all-star game, a dream karaoke situation. I’m not giving this five stars.

I think if anything it just proves the genius of Aretha Franklin. How you can change a song about implied spousal abuse to a women empowerment anthem by barely changing a word. The rest of the album is good. satisfaction is better here than the rolling stone version. Honestly better than I was expecting. He's got such a unique voice.

Rated 6/10

Good album, a few classics/early versions of songs.

Rated 8/10

Holy crap what a voice. I mean this has to be one of the most powerful voices in soul that I've ever heard.

But you can't get away with making a cover album.

Rated 10/10

His voice really was something. Loved the idea of an album of very popular songs at the time. Satisfaction was quite a pleasant surprise

Rated 6/10

I don’t have much to say about this album. Otis Redding has a great voice, but this album of covers didn’t do much for me. Nothing wrong with it, I wouldn’t be upset to hear it again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it either.

Rated 8/10

Overlong for an album, but an easy listen.

Rated 6/10

Pretty nice, but the fact that only 2 songs are original takes away from it a bit.

Rated 6/10

I'm not really sure how much to say about this one. It's Otis Redding so it's great. But as great as it is, I just don't connect with this music much. Or maybe it's not that I don't connect with it, it might be that it just sounds so dated to me. Not just this album but the whole soul and early R&B genres in general. I think this kind of music, though great for the time, just doesn't play as well anymore.
I don't know. It's a great album but would I ever seek it out again? Probably not. 3/5

One of the defining albums of ’60s soul! Otis, with the backing band from Stax again. Booker T, Donald Dunn, Isaac Hayes, Steve Cropper; a literal who’s who of the genre. This is musical perfection.

Rated 8/10

Nice soul album. Good covers.
