One of the most bizarre album covers I've seen, surely the music inside is normal...

Nope the music is as chaotic as the cover implies. It's hard to really describe this album, it's a cacophony of random guitar licks, bashed drums, and screaming for about an hour, so I see why it's so far down the user list rankings. That said, it's not nearly as inaccessible as you would think, Locust Abortion Technician (from the main list) was a more challenging listen and that album was half the length. There's enough punk and post-hardcore grooves in Chocolate Synthesizer to keep the album palatable enough to enjoy, despite its weirdness.

I also appreciate the user's reason for submitting this, there's far too many safe albums on the list and it's nice to get something more controversial. Given the user list reaction, I think it was warranted, people are acting like babies towards this album.

Should it be on the list: No, but from what I've heard of the band their next two albums are steep improvements, with the latter of which being considered one of the best albums in some circles.

Top 3 Songs: Acid Police, Shock City, B For Boredoms.

Yes, I paid money to put this on here. I'd drawn one too many meme picks and 2020s pop albums in a row, and I decided some counterprogramming was in order. Much love to everyone recommending Vision Creation Newsun or Super æ, which are both great, but the circumstances called for more drastic measures. The same week I sent this in, someone else submitted Yoko Ono's "Fly," so clearly I wasn't the only one feeling this way. Unfortunate that it took another 9 months for my own project to get here, though.

Anyway this album is a blast, and more people should spend some time grappling with it. I don't care if people dislike it, but I do care that they at least try to engage with it.

Sorry, but I'll never understand people who enjoy the Noise genre. When do you ever feel the need listen to this?

It sound's like every shitty high school band noodling around on their instruments with no clear direction about what they want to play.

Anyone can make something like this if they market it as "noise music". There is almost zero musical talent here.

I listened to it at 1.5 playback speed on YouTube, and it reminded me of something between Lightning Bolt and a John Zorn project. Then I turned it down to 1.0 playback and just couldn't stay interested.

Very similar to the noise rock of Einsturzende Neubauten. Chaotic and horrible, but there's something about the insanity that draws you in. Plus these guys frontman, Yamantaka Eye, was quite the lad. This guy once drove a working backhoe on stage during a show with one of his prior bands, Hanatarash. Another time he strapped a running chainsaw to his back and spun it around, cutting his own leg pretty badly. One of the strangest stories is one where Eye brought a dead cat out on stage and skinned it. Insanity that matches their music perfectly.

I mean, don't get me wrong, this "music" is truly awful, but the stories and spectacle have to be weighed into the score in this case because it played such a huge role in their overall persona. As I said with Einsturzende Neubauten, I've heard worse, and would probably find a way to add this to the 1001 list and remove some generic Britpop record. At least this band has an interesting story.

Favorite songs: Acid Police, Synthesizer Guide Book on Fire, Voredoms

Least favorite songs: Chocolate Synthesizer, Tomato Synthesizer, B for Boredoms, Turn Table Boredoms, Now Dom Go Synthesizer Way (Why?)

While Lightning Bolt comes down barely on the music side of the divide, Boredoms comes down just barely on the noise side of the divide. It's so close to amazing but it's too painful

Hey, quick note 1001 Generator users. Remember when you'd all complain about how long some of the albums were? Why have I gotten five albums in a row that go over an hour? I know I have to attack Springsteen and Phish live at some point, isn't that long enough? Ten minute albums from here on out, okay? Thanks.

In all seriousness, what a trip of an album. I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing, but man did the longer this album went on did I feel the joke of it all start to land more and more. It isn't the most melodic album, and I don't think I'd come back to a particular track if I could, but I respect this album enough sonically to boost it into the 3's area. Just... maybe ease some people in with Vision Creation Newsun first? Then again, that's not a ten minute album. Hmm... tricky.
