Milo Goes to College

Most of my exposure to Descendents is from their early 90s output. Hadn't ever gone back to their debut and I wish I had. Great energy! 4.5/5

"Hardcore" punk, but old enough that it's keeping up its momentum and not overstaying its welcome. Thankful to not be dealing with an hour of the mic being blown out with top-volume screaming like their descendents tend to do

Does punk really have to be pubescent? It was well performed but I don't get the appeal.

This is definitely about an angry teenage boy. The lyrics are short, unsubtle, and sometimes childish. Songs like "I'm Not A Loser" don't fully stand the test of time lyrically.
Musically, this is insanely awesome. Quick, melodic nerd-core-punk that's wonderfully energetic. Kudos to the bassist for holding it all together. You can't accuse these guys of lacking passion, as good punk should have.
"I'm Not A Punk," "Suburban Home," and "Kabuki Girl" are my favorites.
I can really see how this influenced so many bands. Imagine hearing this in the early 80s. This is where so much of the popular 90s punk bands got their inspiration. Great album, all in all.

I don't like this album. As a formational hardcore album it deserves to be on the list but lord I find it a slog. With the sole exception of Suburban Home, that track rips. Hope is the other good track on here, the rest is trash.
