a nostalgic electronica sensibility of the early teens. I think a lot of the album doesn't quite feel like its using Gaga to the best of her ability. there are a lot of effects in here that sound like auto tuned squeaking doors. Dope is okay. Gypsy finds its footing. and Applause is a stadium shaker. very uneven album, and it is a long slog to the end but there is a reward at the end.

Polished and coherent, but it lacks the weird, punkish attitude her earlier work has and it's just too polished.

Onhan se kovin kova elektropop-levy! Lady Gaga teki kovaa kamaa, harmi etten teininä osannut arvostaa kovinkaan paljoa. 4/5

Rubbish, achieves neither half of the terrible porte-manteau of the title

I know this will be hypocritical considering the album I added would also fall into this criticism, but I hear that this album is "ahead of its time" a lot on more modern reviews. Thus, it is starting to be more fondly looked upon in the 2020s than it ever was in 2013. And, sure, does it sound very 2015 for something in 2013? Yeah, but it hardly is something to congratulate, especially when much more deserving Gaga albums are still lacking on this list. Better than critics let on a decade ago, but certainly not some hidden gem.

DotA epic moments fan reel ass. A dispatch from that brief fever dream of an era where pop producers were making the talent get in on this "dubstep" thing that was sweeping the clubs. I like that she committed 110% to it, though. It shows its age more than most of her stuff, but that kinda makes me like it more.
I'd fully missed this one when it came out, and I really am floored by how much I liked it. I only recognized one song off of here and it's a pretty long album, but, like, most pop albums ("The Fame" absolutely included) have a problem where they're super long & everything that's not an iconic single is useless throwaway filler. This had way less of that.

Starts off so strong with Aura and then fails to maintain interest.
