Favourite songs: Crimson
Least favourite songs: none, there's only one song on the album. I could have picked a segment of it to like or dislike because it was broken into 8 parts, but the song is really solid, so I treated it as one big contiguous piece the way it should be.

Ei mikään lempigenre itselle, mutta tykkäsin yllättävän paljon.

Crimson is a single 40-minute track and Dan Swanö's progressive death metal epic shifts between brutality and melody throughout, the Göteborg influence audible in every clean passage that breaks through the heaviness. Mikael Åkerfeldt guests, which will tell Opeth fans everything they need to know about the melodic ambition on display here.
The 40 minutes stay interesting throughout, the shifts are well-handled, and the moments where clean melody surfaces from the death metal density are genuinely beautiful in context. Occasionally it feels slightly fragmentary and some of those passages could have been developed further, but that's a minor complaint against something this ambitious.

I'm not sure why I don't like this as much as Slipknot or Sepultura, it seems like all the ingredients are there, but it just didn't grab me like they do.

Pretty good chugga wuggas. Extremely strange and disconcerting during part 6 when they briefly switched to clean vocals and major key

A total bridge between 80s and 90s metal, and stuff like Slipknot. Never heard an album that reminded me of so many things at once. Great fun.

Death metal isn’t really my thing but you do have to just take as step back and admire this album. Deserves to be on the list.
