Orpheus Listening Challenge 2026: #35 An album between the years 1992 and 1995 that is categorized under the Riot Grrrl scene (39th Album)

Riot Grrrl is a new thing for me, so might as well start from the most famous band.

Right from the get go: a very angry album. And it works very well in a female fronted setting with the screams and growls and whatnot.

Rebel Girl is a fun song. Very noisy and very moving. The rest of the songs follow the same pattern of a noise fest with some vigorous, vulgar and rebellious lyrics that I can't be mad about. It's punk after all, and I'm glad guys didn't get all the spotlight, and that we got some free-flowing consciousness on tape. Not mainstream at the time, but it needed saying.

Girl punk groups are just way more consistent than the average. Nearly all of them that have come up on here have been a great time. I've made my peace with nobody being able to top X-Ray Spex (that saxophone's just too good), but this is the closest I've heard anyone come.
