I dont know Toxicity was better in my opinion but this is still some solid numetal

This heavy metal was too heavy for me. I can imagine that in the right environment and mood it really gets going. Sugar is the only track that I really like. No wonder, it's the most civilized and harmonious or tame one on the album.

That’s a much better Apocalypse Dudes, to the point where I’ll even go from a 3 to a 4, just because I liked it that much.
My biggest problem with Apocalypse Dudes is that it never really gave me a chance to breathe, and that it never really felt like there was that much variance in its sound; both of them came out in the same year, so I feel confident in saying this album does the heavy hard rock thing so much better.
In terms of both the actual instrumental performance, the actual variance of tracks (i.e., that nothing blended together endlessly), and just the general passion for each track (Apocalypse Dudes felt sort of plastic and fake by comparison), this album just does everything way better, way catchier, and way more memorably. Top notch guitar and percussion work; my only knock is that the vocals felt a little too sharp at times, and that the lyrics (save for the last track and a handful of others) just didn’t add too much depth. Still though, really fun 3 that I enjoyed enough to bump up to a 4.

I feel like Serj Tankian was a theater kid. Some of this (like CUBErt) reminded me of Dead Kennedys. Anyway, overall not my thing, though I see the general quality of it.

I've considered myself a System of a Down fan for quite some time now, but I have then realization every now and then that the only two albums by them I've properly listened to are Hypnotize and Mesmerize, which I know aren't exactly the two big ones. Luckily today I can finally change that by listening to their debut, and quite a debut it is! I'm normally more down for their more out there stuff found on the later records, instead of this heavier, nu-metal influenced sound, and I'll also say I'm missing Daron Malakian's voice, but otherwise this album makes up for all of that by just being an incredible metal album. Every note feels purposeful, rather than just being technical noise with no melodic qualities, and the more the album went on the more I found myself absolutely enveloping into the rawness of each yell and silly little scream produced here. Its powerful, while still having a lot to say, and while the album is perhaps not as memorable as those hit tracks as their career goes on, in the moment of this record playing I don't care, as it is just so gut punch-y. It never annoys, it never is a bore, and its pure, avant-garde, bliss, in the heaviest of ways.

Tight, heavy and high-strung nnu-metal that stops and starts on a dime. Great tension building breakdowns, moody intros, and some pretty huge riffs. Doesn't have the rapping element of nu-metal, but does the bass/guitars perfectly - thick, compressed, down-tuned sludge tone with a bit of groove to the riffs. The vocals are the most unique element, a snarled rapid fire delivery with melodies using the harmonic scales for a slighly exotic flair, they push into the red for some intense operatic belting andlow growling screaming. Not sure why this one got picked over Toxicity, which made a much bigger impact and took their whole sound to its fullest expression...

brings me back to my late teens - can remember hearing suite-pee on a metal hammer (i think) covermount CD and just having my brain melted. Stands up well, shades of nu-metal but slightly askew

Highschool? Highschool. Let the Head-banging commence. Just at the right intersection of noise and music. So hard, but still musical.

I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would. I mean, I didn't like it, but it wasn't unbearable by any means. Musically it's actually kind of interesting, but the lyrics are pretty atrocious. They at least have a sense of humor, and I kind of enjoy the prog-like twists and turns throughout. Rick Rubin's production saves it from a 2.

lol I have a soft spot for SOAD, they feel like they should be grating, but instead I’m just having a good time

Sugar y Spyder. El resto muy intenso, creo que después se moderaron e introdujeron variedad, me gustan más sus dos discos posteriores. Pero vamos, no está mal este (o su versión original).

I appreciate the musicianship and the unique sounds presented by SoaD. But metal/nu-metal isn't really my jam. I owned their follow up album (Toxicity) but never was able to listen to that one completely. 1.5/5

System Of A Down had their sound basically fully formed on this album, in time to lead as kings of the nu metal scene. They have this sense of dynamism and groove that is so rare in this space. Tankian's voice soars on Spiders. Soil and War? both have powerful lyrics. Mind I am not too fond of.

My 14 year old self loved toxicity, don’t think Iv ever heard this album before. Given Iv grown to hate Nu-Metal I Enjoyed this album much more than I thought Or probably should, great heavy guitars and drums, vocals not so much. Would I listen to this album again? Probably not, I’d put on toxicity given I have the nostalgic connection to it.

What I love about SOAD is that the vitriol is coming from a genuine place. They're not just overgrown teenagers ranting against their parents.
