Orpheus Listening Challenge 2026: #1515. An ECM jazz album (15th Album)
Two compositions, two sides. Side A reminds of a combination of Jack Johnson and Bitches Brew, both by Miles Davis, but a bit more mysterious, with those stretched out keys. The drums lay down a mighty groove from the first to the nineteenth minute.
Side B is a bit more out there. It starts out more space ambient, then cranks up the jazz until it turns into a frenzy of drums and piano. Oh, and don't get me started on the trombones and saxophones that arrive on top of all that. It's much better than the A side, with a lot of ooh and aah moments that never let up and keep on piling.
I wish the first 20 minutes did simillar things as the last. I'm sure those who like Bitches Brew and the mysterious nature of jazz will flock towards it, but as it stands, I'll keep spinning the B-side.
Thank you [~SpeedKills] for the recommendation!
