Missy rules but gummon... This one doesn't even have any of the hits.

I loved listening to and watching Missy Elliot on MTV at the end of the 90s. I thought her music and clips were really cool. I didn't get any closer to her. So now an album from her. My premonition that this wouldn't be a hip hop album that I would like was confirmed. I find the cover version of The Rain annoying. Sock It 2 Me was quite interesting in parts, both in terms of rhythm and vocals. Beep Me 911 was ok, but nothing more. In my opinion, that's almost a good yield for a hip hop album. 2/5

You people are overreacting this was fly asf
Rated 10/10
Super justified in being here due to how much it pushed forward the concept of women in rap. Plus, it’s just chock full of bangers.
Rated 4/10
I enjoyed some of it a bit I think.

Is it too long? Possibly. Is it still supa dupa fly? Definitely.
Rated 4/10
Kind of a low energy album, not at all what I came to associate with Missy.
Highlights: the rain

First listen and it sounds extremely fresh - it doesn't sound like an album from 90s. Timbaland's production is incredible throughout and combined with Elliott's diversity of flows every song has at least one transition or moment that is a complete and welcome surprise. Although I'm not rating albums based on historical influence - I can't believe how much hip-hop owes to this album.

I have a huge respect for missy elliott, but I couldn't sing one song of hers and this Album reminds me why. Every song sounds fire, but the second it finishes I can't remember a single thing about it. If anyone asks me I will say I've never heard supa dupa fly

That was not a very good album it felt long, boring and samey.

A Tough Listen—For All the Wrong Reasons
From the very start, I had a feeling this album would be difficult to sit through—and I was right. The sound is grating, the lyrics fall flat, and there’s nothing remotely enjoyable about the experience. It’s a mess from start to finish.
Favorite track: None worth mentioning.
Least favorite track: The entire album.
Album artwork: Bold attitude, but not something I’d ever display.

So much dead air filled with talking about what they are going to rap. Just rap it! Missy has come a long way since then
Rated 10/10
This was the flyest album I’ve ever heard. Timbaland is insane on this one. I didn’t really know or appreciate his work that much up to this point but this absolutely proves that he’s one of the best to ever do it. The mixing was insane too. This album that wants to sound like the 2000s sounds much better than most of the big albums in that era. Loved it front to back

Eine Stunde mäßiger Rap ohne Glanz oder Gloria. Eher Missy Piggy als Eliot.
Rated 6/10
Can I appreciate that this was a significant album, whilst not really being all that fussed about the music?
I can? Oh good.
Rated 2/10
This album sucks ass unfortunately. It is Missy's first album, and she hadn't found her sound yet. The album isn't cohesive at all and features a lot of lackluster talent. It toes that line between R&B and rap.... A little to closely to the R&B side, so that's a big no from me dawg. Fuck R&B.
Favourite songs: Izzy Izzy Ahh, Pass Da Blunt, The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)
Least favourite songs: Beep Me 911, Best Friends, Gettaway

I liked this a lot more than I expected. It's a very listener friendly album, but I'm not sure I'd consider it an all time great.

Reveal reaction: This should be fun!
OK, I was right, it was a lot of fun! I've never really been that interested in Missy Elliot, so this is the first time I've heard this entire album. On one hand, it's a capsule to a time in hip hop where Timbaland was EVERYWHERE, and on the other hand, it's really unique in a way that I never realized. Off the top of my head, I can only point to Lauren Hill as an example of an artist whose album is as equal parts singing and rapping - and equally comfortable with each.
This album isn't as good as the timeless Miseducation of Lauren Hill, but it definitely deserves the love it gets. Great album that sounds of its time, but not anachronistic.
Rated 4/10
This is one of the albums I was dreading; I never liked Missy Elliott and she was on the radio all the time in my peak radio-listening era.
Highlights: a sung "toot toot" always makes me smile. Taj from Survivor is in the video for 'The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)'.
Lowlights: Typical hip-hop slurs. And in general the lyrics annoy me -- IDK why exactly -- they're like, a bit cutesy/cheeky but not enough to commit. The noise throughout of the entirety of the background of 'Beep Me 911' sounds like my iPhone alarm, which is very stressful.

Part of a wave of mid 90s hip hop albums that really brought the genre to a commercial peak and changed the sound and style of pop music across the board. The slowed down and spaced out beats with a sultry RnB feel, emphasis on hooky grooves, and the big choruses made this THE production template for the next decade plus. Laid back delivery of sharp rhymes paired with sung lines, overall Missy Elliott's verses are still central but less out front and more part of an ensemble funk performance.
