Okay album.
Rated 6/10
Gene Clark has made better albums, I think No Other is a much more innovative sounding album by him. It has nice guitar playing at times and Clark's vocals are always pleasant to hear, but it doesn't stand out in an ocean of memorable 70's songwriters.

wow a lot of hate for this one, not bad not good, just average imo
Rated 6/10
Listen to 'No Other' to hear Gene at his best.

Country music is just whiny trash.

This guy stopped being one of the Byrds because he was afraid to fly lol. This album has extremely divorced energy. It's relaxed country-rock with intertwined acoustic guitars, a touch of bass, and barely a drum, it puts the emphasis on the lonely vocals and mournful harmonica. It's all sad, bitter, and longing lyrics and gentle strumming. Sometimes it sounds like a mediocre Dylan rip off, but the best bits are like a folksier version of the Eagles. Cold beer on a hot porch kind of music. I actually like it a lot, but wouldn't really consider it essential listening at all - he has better work elsewhere and other people do this genre better...

This is exactly the type of folksy-Americana I can't stand. I respect the artistry and talent, but just find it totally unenjoyable.

Dylan-light.

Awww... that bloody harmonica strikes again!
It's a shame I have such an issue with it, as Gene Clark's voice is quite soothing. Fecking harmonica!
FWIW, I liked the album artwork photography.

There's nothing this guy's doing that Bob Dylan isn't doing better
Rated 8/10
Nowhere near as good as his work with The Byrds, but that is a high bar to clear. Country tinged American folk is a genre I have a soft spot for, and this is a pretty good example. Interesting choice of cover (actually covers, on the linked expanded version) helps elevate just that 1/4 point higher meaning it rounds to 4!

Det lød fint nok, men det gjorde ikke lige noget for mig

I went into this completely blind. I’d never really listened to Gene Clark before — then realised he was in The Byrds. And honestly, at this point in the challenge, it feels like there are far too many Byrds-related albums on the list.
This one just didn’t grab me. It feels very samey throughout — mid-tempo, introspective, and drifting along without much variation. I kept waiting for something to lift it, but it never really arrived. For me, it lacks urgency and bite.
It leans heavily into that earnest, rootsy singer-songwriter territory. At times it feels like a stripped-back, softer blueprint for artists who would come later — but without the dynamism. Being a huge Springsteen fan, I couldn’t help thinking this felt like a poor man’s version of that heartland storytelling — similar themes, but without the punch or the hooks.
Favourite tracks: “With Tomorrow” and “White Light” stand out. There’s a bit more melody and shape to these, and they’re the reason this scrapes a 2/5 rather than lower.
Least favourite: If I’m honest, most of the rest of the album blends into one long, indistinct listen.
Album artwork: Pretty average, nothing especially striking or memorable.
Overall, it’s not terrible, just dull. And that’s worse. It’s another one ticked off the list, but not one I’ll be returning to.

Some great lyrics, the style just wasn't for me.

Rather liked this one. Shocked that it didn't register much with audiences at the time. Just a smooth, easy listen with a great vibe. 4/5

Solid 60-luvun tyyliä
Rated 2/10
Another lonely cowboy sings to his guitar by the campfire. I played the songs. None of them interested me. The piece For a Spanish Guitar promised to be interesting. If it was indeed written for a Spanish guitar, it lacked the virtuosity to play it. Boring.

This album was a lot better than I thought it would be.
Rated 4/10
Bastante aburrido. Nada rescatable en un álbum que parece lo que te sacaría una IA si le pides algo de este tipo, con Stand By Me incluido.
Rated 6/10
Very good, highly listenable. Unsure why it’s considered essential by these standards, and don’t see much of a reason to go back to it, but nothing wrong with it.
