I really love their older stuff but I never got around to listening to this one when it came out. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that it's in fact very good. Usually when a band releases an album after such a long gap it feels like a cash grab but this genuinely feels like another great Cure album. I love the amount of time it spends instrumentally and the really effective mix of light and dark.

Not my favorite St. Vincent album but all of her albums kick ass so I'm happy to see some representation for her here regardless. I love how dark and brooding this album is. It's borderline industrial at points. You can really hear the Nine Inch Nails influence.

Very derivative of this trend of sadgirl indie. I dig some of that genre but I think it's tough to really stand out within it. This one doesn't really do that in my opinion. It's inoffensive but lacking depth.

Rated 2/10

Pleasantly fun bleep bloops with very generic vocals thrown on top. It was unfortunately pretty forgettable to me.

I dig this album, especially House which was memed a lot but in the end is just a great song. However I really struggle to understand why it would be included on this list. Once again, including an album from THIS YEAR is absolutely mental to me with very rare exception. I agreed with Brat but this is just weird.

Blue RevAlvvays

Rated 4/10

Their first album had a couple fun little catchy songs but nothing really moved me enough to keep following them so this is my first time listening to this one. I feel validated in my decision because this is similarly fine without really doing anything groundbreaking or novel. I wouldn't complain about it being on but I'd never seek it out. Bizarre inclusion especially given its recency.

I listened to her debut a decent amount although it hasn't really held my interest over time if I'm being honest. I haven't checked out much since beyond just what I've heard incidentally. This was enjoyable and pleasant but also didn't leave a huge impression on me. I think part of it is just me not being the target audience to be honest and that's ok.

One of the very rare exceptions to my opinion that albums should have to be 10+ years old to qualify for this list. This album had such a cultural impact that I think it qualifies. It also helps that it's just bangers from front to back. I've been a Charli fan for a while now but this album was her first bonafide classic in my eyes.

SupernovaNova Twins

Rated 8/10

Not what I expected but I'm here for it. It feels like a 2020s take on nu metal, bringing in a lot of modern elements while maintaining that classic mix of rock and rap. I'll have to listen to them more.

Empty HandsPoppy

Rated 6/10

I'm a casual Poppy fan but I haven't listened to this new album. I thought it was pretty solid and continued the style I've known her for. I do think it's really weird to include an album that's so recent here though. Personally if I was going to include her I'd pick one of her older, more established albums.

Definitely not the Chemical Brothers album I would put on this list but I'm happy to see more inclusion for them regardless. This one is solid and very consistently high paced, resulting in a more intense and dancey vibe than a lot of their material. I think it works at making the album feel very cohesive.

I remember when this one came out. I haven't listened in a while but it still holds up as really solid post-punk. The vocals are really intense and powerful too.

I love the amount of aughts era indie people have been adding to this list. This is another tentpole release from that period with a lot of the big players featured on it. It's really gorgeous and lush.

Björk has nothing but bangers. I'd definitely put this one above a couple of the ones on the official list personally. One of her best.

Mint JamsCasiopea

Rated 10/10

Absolutely incredible Japanese jazz fusion that deserves to be on the main list. This is my personal favorite Casiopea release.

Death Cab are one of the titans of aughts-era indie rock. While this isn't my absolute favorite album of theirs, it's certainly one of their best. Ben Gibbard's vocals and lyrics are haunting and beautiful and the instrumentation compliments them perfectly.

Quite possibly the most devastatingly sad album I've ever heard. It's insanely powerful and well-written but it does really take it out of me to listen to. The embodiment of grief.

Wow that is quite a cover! That aside, the album was pretty cool. German industrial is certainly a vibe. Not something I'd listen to all the time but if I'm in the mood I can feel it. The vocals on this album are much more enjoyable than the one on the actual list.
