The music is good. The interludes are annoying. Why did that have to become a trend. Does anybody enjoy those?
Boy, these guys really got lucky with Come on Eileen.
The bass on a few of these tracks is so juicy. My favorite track is Regiment. However, most of the tracks lose the funk and go straight to that herky-jerky percussion that only David Byrne knows how to dance to.
This is some good phat funk and I am here for it!

I wanted to like it. I thought I would like it. It was only okay.

I admire their total commitment to the vibe. Did this band pretty much invent Emo? I’m not in the stage of life now where this hits as hard as it once would have, but I remember when…
It’s a double album in a language I don’t understand, so it was a bit overwhelming in first listen. Love the first track, was em excited, but kind of got burnt out long before it was done. There are multiple genres covered in this album so it’s unlikely anybody will enjoy every track.
After the first run through I tried to just focus on each song and listen to a bit at a time and found alot to appreciate. I actually need to listen to it more! Very worthy addition to the list.

In my opinion the author got this one wrong. Back in the High Life is the superior Winwood album. By alot. So if you’re only going to give him one, this is not it. This one is okay- 3 stars. High Life a high four. Sorry Stevie!

Finally, on day 851, the album I’ve been looking forward to since day one. My favorite album of all time. The music and lyrics work together seamlessly to support the theme. Consistently sublime from start to finish.

I’ve been a fan of Fatboy Slim’s You’ve Come a Long Way Baby album for years. So it was a surprise to me how much I did NOT enjoy this one. It’s very bland in comparison. The funk is missing. Very disappointing. And honestly, with all the bands in the world? There don’t need to be two FBS albums on this list.

I’m not necessarily a Sinatra fan, but I am absolutely a sucker for swing. Not every song on this album fits the category, he veers into straight ballads so loses a star for those.

The Stones at their bluesiest best!

To me this sounds like a pretty run of the mill 70s rock album. I’m going to have to take Wikipedia’s word for it that this was a “seminal” work of power pop. In that case, many bands sounded alot like them afterwards.

What’s with the slow ponderous plodding sings? 3/4 time can still be fun , didn’t have to be played at 18th century waltz tempo.
It does pick up the pace occasionally, but it’s still a chore to listen to this.
I’m so sick of The Byrds.

It’s hard to be objective because her voice grates on me. I’ve always heard about this album but refused to listen until now because of that.
I mean let’s face it, she sings every song the same way. It feels so repetitive. So very repetitive. And then more repetitive.
So I focused on the lyrics, and there are some beauties in there, so I guess that’s the appeal? I can find some appreciation for the lyrics. The River being my favorite.
But it’s still not enough to make me ever want to sit through this again.

I think this one might take a few listens to grow on me. I usually like grime music, but this was a bit rough on first listen. Might need to dig into the lyrics.

The vocals could be better, but I enjoy the lyrics and the general feel of this one.

When I read that this artist was compared to Nick Drake and Elliot Smith I thought I was in for another morose melodramatic album.
I was so very happily surprised by this. The instrumentation is gorgeous. Sure it’s emo, but it is had and shoulders above those artists in musicality. Absolutely lovely listen. Very strong four stars.

I’m glad my husband encouraged me to give this one a second chance. On first listen I didn’t appreciate it, but I was just waking up. I found the funk in it a few hours later.
However, the ballad at the very end feels like a total cop out radio grab. Come on guys, really?
Was 3.5 stars until that last song dragged it down.
