This is like Dollar Store King Crimson, and is more similar to the music of Yes with its heavy reliance on synthesizers in place of guitars. I found that it spent more time ambling about than it did actually pushing an idea or a narrative. Even the longest prog rock songs (the good ones at least) always have a defined beginning, middle, and end. This album (and especially Tarkus in particular) feels more unpolished. Almost like they had an idea, got off to a good start, but then couldn't find the finish line.

Overall, the album wasn't bad, it just wasn't as cohesive as other prog rock bands of the 70's.

This is my second Smiths record on this generator. As was my complaint with the first album (The Queen is Dead), Morrissey is depressing as fuck to listen to.

Morrissey sounds happiest when he's singing about death, or being a dick. There's a song "Girlfriend in a Coma" where he sounds extatic. There's also Unhappy Birthday, where he wishes someone an UN... Happy birthday.... Simply because he's a douche I think. And he sounds so happy about it. Some lyrics from that song include:

"... And if you die... I may feel slightly sad, but I won't cry...." "but I've come to wish you an unhappy birthday... Because you're evil and you lie"

Truth be said, this is the Smiths most upbeat album that I've heard, but still depressing as fuck. I just find it hilarious how Morrissey seems so happy to be depressed. Seems like he sings about death with a smile on his face.

Favourite songs: Paint a Vulgar Picture, Girlfriend in a Coma, Death at One's Elbow, I Started Something I Couldn't Finish, Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before

Least favourite songs: Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, I Won't Share You

This is the second TV on the Radio album that I've gotten in this generator. The first, Dear Science, was a teriffic album. This one... Not so much. A lot of shrieking and random humming on this album. Also, really weird and experimental music and noises that just didn't hit for me. Super disappointing seeing how much I liked that first album of theirs that I reviewed. Dude has a voice that sounds like Prince by times.

Favourite songs: Don't Love You, Bomb Yourself

Least favourite songs: The Wrong Way, Ambulance, You Could Be Love

My second Beatles album on this generator. Their music is just... so beige and boring. The whitest boy band, pop rock shit ever. Every one of their albums contains 1 or 2 really solid songs (Can't Buy Me Love & A Hard Day's Night in this case) with a bunch of filler spread in, and the filler all kind of sounds the same. The one good thing about 60's music is that the average song length is under 3 minutes each. This album definately didn't overstay its welcome, finishing up in just 30 minutes.

Overall, not terrible, but nothing spectacular either. I've always felt that the Beatles were kind of overrated, and this album kind of proves it. Also, one of the dumbest album covers ever.

Favourite songs: Can't Buy Me Love, A Hard Day's Night, Tell Me Why, I'll Cry Instead

Least favourite songs: And I Love Her, I'll Be Back

Koffi Olomide is a Congolese Soukus artist. Soukus is apparently Rumba music with a faster tempo, and more guitars. To me it sounds like Spanish music, sung in French, dripping with 80's cheese. Even the album cover screams 80's, with Koffi's blindingly white pants.

I feel like I don't have the knowledge to accurately rate this album, because I know nothing about Congolese rumba music, so how it stacks (good or bad) is lost on me. I know that I enjoyed the danceable beats achieved by the band, but whether it makes it good or bad in the grand scheme of things, I have no idea.

As I don't speak French, the bulk of this album ran together for me, so I can't really pick out where the songs started and stopped.

Favouririte songs: Papa Bonheur

Least favourite songs: Dit Jeannot

Why is there more than one Pavement album on this list? This one is at least better than their other album that I've reviewed, "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain".

Favourite songs: Trigger Cut/Wounded Kite at :17, Summer Babe, In the Mouth a Desert, Zurich is Stained

Least favourite songs: No Life Singed Her, Conduit For Sale!, Chelsey's Little Wrists, Loretta's Scars, Here, Two States, Fame Throwa, "Jackals, False Grails: The Lonesome Era"

This is one of the more boring offerings made by the album generator. You Know what becomes really annoying upon extended listen? A vibraphone, which is heavily featured (Gary Burton is apparently a renouned vibraphonist) on this record. Astor Piazzolla's bandoneon playing makes it feel like you are in a French/Italian cafe. This whole album is call center hold music or elevator music. It was so hard to stay focused on this one. I caught myself drifting off into a daydream several times throughout. 58 minutes is quite a long time to endure this "new tango/jazz hybrid". It wasn't necessarily bad, just really boring. I don't think I would listen again. On a dreary fall day, all this did was lull me into a trance, and almost put me to sleep.

Favourite song: La Muerta Del Angel (one of the shorter songs on the record)

Least favourite songs: I don't know, the whole album just ran together so bad, I couldn't really differentiate good from bad.

Not these idiots again... It is completely fucked that Pere Ubu gets at least 2 albums on this list, while many more deserving bands didn't even get recognized. Whoever made this list needs to get their priorities straight.

Is dude singing in English?!? The track "Laughing" sounds like noises coming from a Kindergarten music class.

Fuck Pere Ubu. Absolute garbage. Came close to turning this record off. No redeeming qualities. This influences nothing. These tools should pay fines for every set of ears they make bleed with their shitty music.

Favourite songs: Street Waves is the least annoying of the lot, but still sucks ass

Least favourite songs: Sentimental Journey, Laughing, and the rest of this bullshit album. Why is breaking glass sounds, and recorders shoved up peoples arses considered music??

Rated 6/10

Bauhaus is the band who started the genre of goth rock. Their music is weird, but in a good way. Super experimental. Goth rock isn't really my scene, but sometimes it is interesting to hear the starting point of a whole genre. Bauhaus' music is full of reverb, and haunting synth work, as well as deep, dark vocal delivery. Most of the time, the songs make no sense. An example of this would be the song "1. David Jay 2. Peter Murphy 3. Kevin Haskins 4. Daniel Ash". Almost 2 minutes into the song, the band starts singing about how to make fish cakes, and randomly shouts "FISH CAKES!!!" Near the end of this same song, they play the vocal track backwards, resulting in some weird noise.

Props to the band for this album cover. It reminds me of the start of a bad joke: " A goth, an alien, and a panda walk into a bar..."

Overall, not my favourite genre, but absolutely important to the creation of goth rock, emo, shoegaze, and more... It must be said that shoegaze, as a genre, can go fuck itself.

Favourite songs: The Man With X-Ray Eyes, Harry, Hair of the Dog, The Passion of Lovers, Dancing, In Fear of Dub, Mask

Least favourite songs: Hollow Hills, Ear Wax, "1. David Jay 2. Peter Murphy 3. Kevin Haskins 4. Daniel Ash"

What the actual fuck is this garbage. The lead singer sounds like an Oompa Loompa who wanted to cut a record deal. That or a Tiny Tim (of Tip Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me fame) impersonator. That irritatingly high voice coupled with computer generated beats and musical backing that lacks substance, and you're left with this dumpster fire of a band. Add to that a stupid fucking band name, and an even shittier album cover, and you get the monumental disappointment of a listening day I had today.

Why the fuck was this even created? And more than that, what brain trauma victim thought it belonged on a list of 1001 essential albums?!? 1001 steaming piles of garbage maybe.

I couldn't maintain focus when attempting to listen to this forgettable trash heap, and it even sucked as background music. The album summary should tell you all you need to know about this record. 50,000 copies sold in the UK in the 14 years that it has been out. Could that be because this is horrible?!?

Absolutely no redeeming qualities to any of this horseshit. Fuck this band.

Favourite songs: All the King's Men... I guess

Least favourite songs: When I'm Sleepy..., Hooting & Howling...and the rest of this garbage. I zoned out...

The Triffids are an alternative rock band from Australia, similar in sound to bands such as The Smiths.

Their sound features heavy use of jangly guitar parts which was so popular in the 80's, as well as lead singer David McComb's low register. His lower voice is by times complimented by female backing vocals, done by Jill Birt. I really enjoyed the Celtic influences heard in the song "Jerdacuttup Man". By times, this music has a tendency to sound like 80's cheesy pop rock (Love the Fever), but it has a unique quality about it that I can't quite put my finger on.

Overall, my initial knee jerk reaction was unfavorable, but after listening a second time, I enjoyed it more. I believe with more listens, I would grow to enjoy this record and band. An interesting listen today, as Australia hasn't been featured in this list much for me yet (only other Australian band listened to so far is the Avalanches).
