Oh Midnight City, I remember you! Side one is an atmospheric recession pop affair. This feels like one solid indie alt jam session and I'm not super into it. It's really the space synthesizers that I can't seem to stomach.

One for the t-girls! They're a Saddest Factory artist, so of course its low key and chill. You Are The Morning has great lyrics. Wow hey Phoebe Bridgers on Guy Fawkes Tesco Disassociation

God just when I thought I was safe from another goddamn Stones record. yep just more slop rock right from the can, did anyone listen to this damn thing? The problem is that everyone knows these guys have been rockstars for 70 years, and they have no believability when they sing about shit like breaking free from it all, having someone leave them, or any other problem as they try to spin themselves as an everyman. Get fucked, Mick Jagger, and spare us all any more.

not really into the modern rap rock revival on this one. A Dark Place For Something Beautiful is a good dark Muse inspired track. Noise-pop? that's a good name for it.
Rated 6/10
cool dream pop stuff, some shoegazey stuff. Nothing that I'm overly excited about but it was good.
Rated 8/10
dang bro this shit goes hard. Constantly Nowhere is like lost Charli track. Then Dying To Forget is a banger metalcore song. Time Will Tell is probably the best blending of all the elements on this album. Super cool.
Rated 6/10
This is alright. kind of like a more dancey Bjork. If I were at a rave in bushwick somewhere, this would be a good time, but stripped of that, it didn't land with me.
Rated 8/10
sort of a Cosmo Shelldrake vocal sound. Prey the Devil back to Hell is cool. Katie Taylor would be into this. His lyrics are very poetic and I like his easy delivery. Oh Wide World is an easy single. Heavy Foot is a really cheery protest song. Some good tunes on here, but not something I would come back to as a whole piece.

Broken Man is cool. Flea is cool. Big Time Nothing is verrrry cool and groovy. Violent Times continues the groove and I'm into the album now. Sweetest Fruit is so cool. We Are All Born Screaming has such a weird easy groove with almost grotesque lyrics. Like if Lorde's Solar Power was a stoner from Bushwick and also an existential happy nihilist. This was so cool! need to revisit.

Ok Billy, I remember not really thinking this was a big deal when it came out. LUNCH is a good song. BIRDS OF A FEATHER is a little overpraised in my opinion. One of the albums of #BRATSUMMER, which everyone wanted to be a lesbian. And good for them. And good for the people who thought they were lesbians after all and tried it out. Some, as it turns out, were not actually lesbians but better people for the experience. May we all be so lucky.
There are some fun turns in here, like the post chorus/bridge/outro on GREATEST. I can appreciate Billie standing more on the strength of her delicate vocal deliveries. The album to me feels more about building and resting on a delicate structure rather than her earlier stuff. There are flashes of her more BOM sound. Very much a departure from her earlier work and an artistic evolution. Not really something I am very interested in and certainly not the best album of 2024.
No Reason has that sick downbeat euro dance groove. Yea this is a good eurodance album.

They put in 2 Charli XCX albums and still only have Daft Punk's Homework. That makes sense. This is a decent album but not my favorite by her. Dying For You is a bop. Alter is okay. Yea what the hell?
Renegade Yiddish music? okay, like that he isn't a Netanyahu guy. Parasite is an awesome song. 6 Million Germans/Nakam is nuts. What a ]crazy album this thing is like a modern Jewish Gil Scott Heron. It rips!
Yea its cool i guess. Not very impactful.
Rated 6/10
Ecstasy has a cool groovy talking heads sort of feel. SEMMEOMUHAY! a cool 90s jam album, but nothing much for me in the back half.

Lol. Listening to this almost 20 years on, it feels like listening to a dying star. 3rd wave was such a movement, dissipated, revived, and this felt like the apex of that revival. For me, everything ska after this album was just in permanent decline. Because this album was the artform perfected. everything else after couldn't match it, but it was perfect for those already in the scene. It never had a larger commercial impact in a wider audience, it never brought in new people. So the art form was doomed.

cool boogie country. The cover of In Bloom is probably the best version of this song I have ever heard. Call To Arms is great. As a whole, its a little flat for me.
Holy shit The Man Who Married A Robot is so fucked. There is some really genuinely great funky experimentation on this album. It's Not Living has genuinely terrifying lyrics with a peppy upbeat soundtrack, very disturbing. I Couldn't Be More In Love is rad. Such a cool album, very moving, needs a relisten.
