ok this is hella cool. i'd already enjoyed some arctic monkeys albums in the past so I was definitely jumpscared by the singer's voice here- even outside of that hypnotic english boy, though, this album absolutely bangs. Calm Like You and My Mistakes Were Made For You were some particular standouts but I really enjoyed the whole thing. thanks mr monkey!

A perfectly serviceable rock album and pretty good for a live one! Slightly same-y but seeing as it came out in the seventies I gather they likely inspired a lot of other bands. I liked Emerald a lot!

this feels like the kind of album id have to listen to a couple times for it to really click. ill prob come back to it in like two years and really like it- 2028 me, remember to check in!

some really interesting stuff here! not gonna say everything was entirely my vibe but some really cool things nonetheless. I really enjoyed the variety of styles and genres present in this album. if i didnt like what was playing, all i had to do was to wait till the next song and it would be a completely different thing.

oh HELL yeah VERY big fan of this. daniibe and gidelam were some particular standouts but I enjoyed the whole album. tho the synths were slightly distracting at times i really enjoyed the harmonies + style. give me this any day of the week over another cure album!!!!!!

does the beastie boy 'somebody starts the line and someone else ends it' but I ultimately enjoyed it here more than when the Boys(tm) do it. I really enjoyed It's Tricky, Raising Hell, and Walk This Way (of course lol) -- and you can definitely see how much influence it had over later hip hop music.

You can definitely tell everyone's having a great time. It's got a great infectious energy!

BANGER!!! ENTIRELY BANGER!!! Mannish Boy is my song of the summer. Mr. Waters, I too want to be loved #2. The blues had a BANGER baby and they named it ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I'm walkin' thru the park listening to Walkin' Thru the Park and I am having a ball of time doing it!

muddy waters you are the only man for me!

it was good! I really liked the front half of this album (by which, I mean, like, the first four songs). The last half dragged a little. 'Hell Yes' was reaaaalllly not my thing. Rental Car was great, Que' Onda Guero is probably spelled all the way wrong. Girl was good too!

Prob not gonna revisit this one. But it's nice to know who Beck is, now!

I was worried bc i didnt really enjoy the first dong but i was very pleasantly surprised! Crazy things happening with a keyboard here! It really does scrstch that alternative itch for me. it doesnt quite sound lkke a lot of things ive listened to before. I really liked Angryman, No Trophy, Binnel Bay-- I think this is actually going on my study list immediately.

Oh apparently they have an album called Octopus. I may need to listen to that. For Science.

a very strange one if only because I recognized so many tracks on it without even being consciously aware of who ZZ Top was. Very quintessential rock n roll in a way that makes me think that a LOT has been based on it.

This guy's voice--I know him! I'm positive I do! But from where? I swear to god I haven't heard any of his most famous songs. But I swear to god I know him. Aggressively eighties, love a good synth keyboard. Not quite Tina Turner level but who is?

"I want to listen to neutral milk hotel" "we have neutral milk hotel at home"
albums that make you listen to in the aeroplane over the sea again. Itwas good! I liked the Neighborhood series and Haiti.

Was reading the Spotify summary for this band and was enraptured by "raffish and slightly scuzzy romance-obsessed" as a collection of adjectives to describe someone. Scuzzy is such an evocative word! Said Spotify summary also refers to the Cure as "politically indulgent" and Peter Perrett's voice as a "semi-tuneful whine". I gotta say I'm obsessed with this writer. John Dougan, I hope your career is long and illustrious!

Oh, the actual album? Uh--well--it's cute! I like "Another Girl, Another Planet" and "Breaking Down" is very chill. Like if punk was elevator music. "Creature of Doom" is also pretty good.

I'm gonna say "unobtrusive". I could put this on in the background and forget to listen to it quite easily. Mr. Dougan says this is an influential punk influence but I dunno. It's just...kinda chill.

gonna be real it took a few tries for me to sink my teeth into this album + it took being stuck on a broken-down train to finally do it lol. not to say I didn't like the album! super enjoyed Lion Thief and Liquid Pure was pretty cool- i think overall it was just a little samey for me. not bad! Just not quite my thing. my-thing-adjacent.

If I were in charge of the aux cord at a party where the majority of guests were over fifty, male, and from the generally southern part of the United States I would definitely put songs from this album on.

It was chill. Travelin' Band gave me mega 'good golly miss molly' vibes and I think I like Mr. Revival's faster boogie songs. Lookin' Out My Backdoor, Who'll Stop the Rain, and Run Through the Jungle were my faves. I Heard it Through the Grapevine is 11 minutes long and you feel every inch of it! Cowbell was fun though.

Like Bayou Country (my first-reviewed album!), I don't think this is /super/ my thing but I appreciate the skill and how it influenced later artists.

I need to be on a 13-mile hike and mourning the loss of my wife and child in that damned cruel fire while taking swigs from my whiskey flask to truly appreciate this album I think. I am Positive I've heard Big Iron before--Johnny Cash, perhaps?

okay really big fan of whatever the hell is going on in I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.

IT'S LIKE IF COLDPLAY WAS LISTENABLE! I dig it! (aka guy with slightly whiny voice in an alt rock band). Heavy Metal Drummer is really cute :))))

Mostly neutral with a few notable exceptions. Better than Coldplay!
