When it's good it's good and when it's bad it's Bad, and that's not good.
Rated 6/10
Equally impressive and irritating at times. There are songs like Your Gold Teeth that I could listen to a whole album of, but then some of it sounds like hotel bar band jamming
In hell, this comes out of the speakers when you put on an OutKast album
Rated 4/10
Seeing the average rating and reading some other people's reviews, I think this is over-hated because Kid Rock is now a big Trump supporter. That's such a boring way to rate music of the past, in my humble opinion.
Having said that, it's wayyyyy too long and one-dimensional. He doesn't have enough to say for this to be 71 minutes long and some of the softer songs are awful.
If I could boil this down to 30 minutes of the best riffs and dickhead raps, I would give this a higher score.
Rated 6/10
I like the album cover. I like Living For The City. I like Too High.
I don't like All In Love Is Fair. I don't like Golden Lady.
Ground Zero for what would later be called indie/alternative/punk/post-punk. That doesn't make it good, but it also happens to be very very good.
Predictably, it might be the easiest 5 stars I hand out on this challenge.
Rated 8/10
They created a really good sound here. Industrial but not in a cliched way, nihilistic, despairing.
I've had this album for years. I never seem to be in the mood to listen to it, but it was worthwhile revisiting.
Falls off a little bit in parts of side 2.
Favourite track: Kerosene
Rated 8/10
Ambitious, immaculately produced and varied.
There are moments I love, especially on side 2, but there's something lacking here that you would find on earlier albums, a certain soul. And I don't like Paul's songs on side 1.
I see it as impressive more than something I reguarly return to.
Rated 8/10
Great palate cleanser while more grandad rock is being prepared in the kitchen
Rated 4/10
Refer to album title

“What an album, huh? 😣”
“But Captain, we’re only on track 5”
Rated 8/10
3.5 but I’m in a generous mood
Rated 10/10
Might be one of the most fully formed and original sounds on a debut album ever. Doesn’t even sound dated somehow.
Rated 8/10
Hugely original album that seems to be proto-punk, post-punk, and not really punk at all, all at the same time.
Some amazing guitar work, especially on the title track.
Not quite 5 for me because the vocals grate on me at times and a few songs on the second half are not as good .
Rated 8/10
I'm usually not a big fan of blues rock from this era but something about the psychedelia and the vocals elevates it for me.
Best: L'America, Riders on the Storm
Rated 6/10
I thought I was going to have a "separate the art from the artist" dilemma but luckily I thought some of this was quite bad, especially tracks 2 and 9.
I don't understand people who think this is the best of all time and all the tracks are bangers.
Can't deny Billie Jean and Beat It are good singles but this is never going to be my thing.
Rated 6/10
I get a lot of teenage nostalgia from this. My issue is, most of the best tracks are the ones I've heard too many times and don't care for anymore. Maybe it's a "me problem".
Best song: Longview
Rated 4/10
It's all very well done, but this type of throwback pre-Beatles pop music is not my cup of tea.
Rated 6/10
One of the least essential Tom Waits albums - shouldn’t be on the list. He sounds like he’s on autopilot for some of this but would soon come out with the inspired Swordfishtrombones. Having said that, it’s still good though because it’s Tom Waits.
