BlueJoni Mitchell

Rated 6/10

A real mixed bag for me with this one. The tracks I liked were great. The tracks I didn’t like I REALLY didn’t like. The Last Time I Saw Richard in particular I bloody hated.

I will give it another listen later though. When I generated Court And Spark way, way back as album 32 I hated it on the first listen really enjoyed it the second time round.

Top Track - River

All Mod ConsThe Jam

Rated 8/10

This was a really good album, there’s definitely no dud tracks on it. It doesn’t get top marks because like The Jam as a whole, I enjoyed it but it doesn’t blow me away.

Anytime I hear a Jam album I always think I should l should listen to them more then I don’t think of them again for a few years.

Top Track - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight

It’s bad craic when you’re 3 tracks into an album and you’re already looking to see how much longer is left. This was a slog for me to get through. It’s not necessarily that it was terrible, it was just an absolute tornado of vanilla.

Really good album. Some of the tracks really put me in mind of The Beach Boys vocally. If I get another listen or two in I could see myself going for the full five.

The only real criticism I would have is that Time Of The Season is obviously the big track from this but there was nothing else really like it on the album. I wouldn’t want a full album that’s all the same but maybe a couple more tracks in that style.

Top Track - Time Of The Season

Not gonna lie, first track I wasn’t liking this at all. I thought this had one star written all over it. Thankfully after that it grew on me pretty quickly and by the end of Oh What A World I was loving life.

I did go back after and listen to Slow Burn again. Still not fussed on it. Rest of the album is a belter though.

NevermindNirvana

Rated 10/10

An absolute classic if there ever was one. Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the all time great opening tracks and the bangers just keep coming after that.

Outside of the singles, Lounge Act is a great track and Drain You is probably in my Top 5 Nirvana songs.

Top Track - Come As You Are. It will forever be my favourite Nirvana song.

Mildly disappointed with this one. I liked it well enough but nothing really blew me away. I enjoyed No Name infinitely more.

Top Track - Freedom At 21

Second one from The Beta Band and another great album. While I enjoyed every song on it, it didn’t have anything standout that would make me push to 5 stars. Still it’s definitely one I’ll be going back to.

Top Track - Quiet

RocksAerosmith

Rated 2/10

Happy days, my final Aerosmith album on the list. I knew already that I wasn’t a fan of Aerosmith and the three albums on here confirmed that.

Unless someone adds something from them to the User list, please don’t lol, I cannot see any scenario where I listen to one of their albums in full again.

During the opening track I really thought I was gonna hate this one but it grew on me by the end. It’s still not an album I’m likely to go back to but it wasn’t a bad listen overall.

Top Track - Only You Know. Mainly because Jarvis Cocker sampled it for the track Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time from his first solo album.

I was debating between a 4 and a 5 for this one but the title track sealed the deal. It really is a tremendous song.

Apart from that, Let’s Go Crazy is always a fun listen.

Top Track - Purple Rain

Space RitualHawkwind

Rated 10/10

Holy crap I loved this. Hawkwind are a band that I’ve meant to check out before but never have until today. I’ve downloaded a load of their albums to get stuck into tonight.

Top Track - Born To Go

A great chill out album. I’m glad I didn’t get this on a night when I’m in work because I definitely don’t think I would’ve got as much out of it.

It’s not an album that’s going to become a regular listen but I could see myself going back to it once or twice a year.

Nothing really of interest for me here. Didn’t hate anything, didn’t really like anything. I don’t mind his vocals so maybe I’ll enjoy another album of his a bit more.

As someone who was a teenage metalhead in the early 00’s and watched the channels Kerrang and Scuzz non stop, Slipknot should be right up my alley. Instead I can’t bloody stand them lol.

I will say though I thought this was going to be a guaranteed one star but I actually quite enjoyed Sulfur. I’ll never listen to this album in full again but I’ll come back to that track.

First of all, doesn’t factor into the score but holy crap what an awful album cover lol.

As for the actual album, really enjoyable listen. Everything up to and including Metal Baby was great. It did fall off a tad after that but came back strong at the end with Is This Music.

Top Track - Metal Baby

From an all time favourite yesterday to this today, probably the least enjoyable album I’ve generated so far.

I hated this. Absolutely hated it from start to finish. It seemed to go on for an eternity then at the end, just for an extra kick in the bollocks, I Dream A Highway goes on for 14 bloody minutes. I can honestly say I have listened to every available track from the 629 previous albums but at about the six minute mark I did really consider calling it quits for the day.

Fuck the hell yeah, I LOVE this album. Have done since the day it was released. I went to see them perform it in full for its 10th anniversary and that still ranks as one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

Obviously I Believe In A Thing Called Love is the mega hit from this, and I do like it, but I would rank at least 5 songs ahead of it. Growing On Me for example was a far stronger single to come from the album while Friday Night has the same silliness as IBIATCL but I’ve always preferred it out of the two.

Love Is Only A Feeling is the standout track for me though. A genuinely great power ballad without the same level of goofiness the rest of the album has.

A special mention for Holding My Own as well. Surprisingly brilliant to hear live but in my teenage innocence, it honestly took me years to work out what it was about 🤦‍♂️
