That was some insignificant post-grunge/post-punk/alt rock BS right there. Like they didn't know if they wanted to be Oasis or Nirvana or Screaming Trees. Not an impressive addition even though the Weird Al polka song Get Free is on here which was a nice surprise. 2.3/5 -> 2/5

Sea ChangeBeck

Rated 6/10

In highschool this was a great breakup album. In adulthood this is an ok singer songwriter album.
Overall the songwriting is good, but many tracks sound similar. Beck also wears his influences blatantly on his sleeve, with a few too many on-the-nose Serge Gainsborough nods. Not a bad album, but some more variety would have elevated this. 3.3/5 -> 3/5

Rated 6/10

This is one of the better REM albums I've heard, and it's still pretty mild. Not turning heads but inoffensive. 2.8/5 -> 3/5

It's too bad, my favorite track "Change" was a B-side. Ah well. The washed out vocals and more instrumental angles benefited this a bit. If Change was legit this would have rounded up, but alas. 3.4/5 -> 3/5

When I hear people say "I don't like rap", I imagine they're thinking of half of the songs on this album.

Tacky features, braggadocios bars with nothing to back them up. Reminds me of the a bar from Method Man's Tical yesterday: "And all you bitch-ass niggas in the industry/Your careers won't be lasting long". Cee Lo does ok with the slower soul songs, but overall the bark does not match the bite on this 70+ min album. 2/5

ArrivalABBA

Rated 8/10

When I Kissed the Teacher into Dancing Queen might just be one of the most 5/5 starts to a pop album. After that the songs are either great or good, with arrival being a nice closer. 4/5

I wanted to like this, but for "groove metal" the riffs were not very sticky nor chugging. The lyrics of the songs were equal parts thought-provoking and stupid overgenreralizable dribble. 2.4/5 -> 2/5

It's like members of Slint, Elliot Smith, Mudhoney and Meat Puppets came together to make an album but could not agree on a cohesive style.

Most of these songs were 2.5/5, with better exceptions being Elixer is Zog and Bouquet for a Siren which leaned 4, and worse exception being Fantastic Disaster which was horrible.

All together I calculated a 2.7ish, but because the album is so inconsequential, they band members could NOT find common ground which made the experience super choppy, and the first and last songs were not great ways to bookend the album I gotta reduce the score by .1 for each. 2.7-.3= 2.4/5 -> 2/5

Damn, I'm not typically that impressed by the WULu Tang members solo work but this was pretty damn good. Fun lyrics (like the first of the north Star reference), not too much of a 36 chambers clone. Good all around. 4/5

Achtung BabyU2

Rated 6/10

I was hesitant about this one, but honestly it might be the better of the U2 albums I've heard on here. The songs didn't feel forced, nor purely engineered to make pop-rock money. There were quite a few meh moments, but I also enjoyed others. 3/5

Even though it's "concept" was a bunch of babbling that may or may not have been in english, and when there were sentient sentences they were stupid, the music wasn't horrible so I didn't dislike it for the most part. 3/5

Really not even close to the same tight quality of Purple Rain. Starfish and Coffee really makes Side A - the others are mostly a mixed bag of 2s and 3s. Side B is shorter but the song quality goes down a little. Especially if I was your Girlfriend and the cross which are both bad for different reasons.
Side A: 2.6/5
Side B: 2.2/5
Total: 2.4/5 -> 2/5

Side A of this album was really not impressive (Yes improved on the song America, though it's not even that great when they play it). Side B was better: my wife sings the english muffin line off of Punky's Dilemma all the time, and Mrs. Robinson is pretty good. 2.6/5 -> 3/5

Better than I thought. I figured this would be another post punk slog but was more on the noise/shoegaze side most of the time. Not something I'd go back to but ok while it's on. 3/5
