Not for me. I’ve already gotten two other albums of his before (one live, one studio) and I think his earlier work is more to my liking.

Icon. Absolutely loved the first few songs. After that it felt a bit repetitive to me and like each song sounded the same, but he’s still an icon.

Now this is rock n’ roll.

Masterpiece. No one else will ever be able to replicate the magic of hearing Robert’s high notes and the insane talent of the band members. To think this was just their debut album? MAGIC.

How can you not smile as soon as the first song starts? It’s like hearing sunshine.

Love her vocals and some songs were bangers! It’s not something I’d intentionally reach for again, though.

Holy shit. I just fell in love. And then had to mourn the fact that this man was taken way too soon from the world. One of the best, most sexiest and romantic, albums I have ever heard. Perfection. 10000/10. No notes.

Second album from theirs I’ve gotten and still the same conclusion that they’re not for me.
I have historically not liked country, but I’m surprised how endearing this was for me. It’s not something I’d reach for, but it was kind of….soothing. And had enough of a blues/rock vibe to keep me interested.

Great album. The second half was my absolute favorite and reminded me so much of what I loved about Music For The Masses, which was my first ever Depeche Mode album on here and an instant 5 stars for me.
The first half, especially World In My Eyes, gave me very strong Kraftwerk vibes, which I know is a strong influence for them. The Man-Machine by Kraftwerk was also an instant 5 star album for me and I could hear almost identical beats from it. It kind of threw me off a little and the album didn’t really hit for me until Personal Jesus and after.
I’d be very very surprised if any Depeche Mode, hell—any synthpop album—would get less than a 4 from me. Inject this genre of music into my veins.
Favorites (aside from Personal Jesus & Enjoy The Silence):
Waiting for the Night (STUNNING song)
Blue Dress (this is my #1 from the whole album—so haunting and dark!)
Clean (if the whole album was like this and Blue Dress, it would’ve been an instant 5 star album for me!)

Wow, I am blown away. As soon as the instrumental opening started I was like…..WHO is this?! I’ve never heard of this music artist before and I am sad to think I went all these decades without listening to his phenomenal music.
This is art.

The amount of excitement that flooded me when I saw this was my album today. And, after listening to it fully after 20+ years, it is even better than I remembered. One of the best.

Not for me.

This is so lovely. :exhales:

The moment the first song started I immediately thought of a Disney movie. That’s the energy I am getting—like feel-good, everything-is-going-to-be-okay energy. In certain songs and instruments, I’m reminded a little of The Beatles and some other bands that I can’t think of right now, but they feel like a mash-up of different bands yet while retaining a unique sound and voice. They’re fun and I really like the energy in here. Each song is so unique and different and you don’t know what you’re going to get.

Wow, this brings me back to the time when I got to see them live. It was a spectacle. Completely forgot about them and so glad this for this experience introducing them back into my life.
Rated 4/10
It’s fine, but I don’t love it as much as Back To Black even if some of the songs/beats are catchy.

First time I’ve listened to a Bruce Springsteen album. I get why he is so beloved. A little too dad energy for me, but it was so lovely! I wouldn’t mind if was playing wherever I was and would really enjoy it. I’m looking forward to getting some of his earlier stuff, which could potentially be a 5 star pick for me!
RIP Dolly. Country music isn’t really my thing, but I love her.

As soon as the first song started, I was like, “AmI listening to Celtic music? This is so cool!” But then as the song went on, I had hard time with discordance. I loved the lyrics in Darkness, Darkness and how they openly sing about mental health. I feel like they’re such a blend of different genres and I can imagine seeing them live back then would’ve been such an experience.
