Please..... No more songs about your cock.....
This is some pretty solid Gangsta Rap, however, as is the case with most hip hop/rap albums, it's littered with skits.... Which I hate. I've said before, I find that they detract from the flow of the album, and don't really understand their significance... That may just be me.
My issue with a lot of the Gangsta rap subgenre is that all they sing about is cocks, getting laid, and killing each other...... I don't get it. I like the music and the rhymes, but like.... Pick a new topic. It all gets washed out pretty quick for me.
I think this is why I like intelligent rap like that of Aesop Rock or Common more than this Gangsta rap. Their rhymes have variety, and they are true wordsmith. With this album, there are about 5 words that are littered through 95% of this album... Dick (or some other descriptor of a cock), pussy, Bitch, the N word, and fuck. Like, I'm no prude, but please at least invest in a fucking thesaurus....
Favourite songs: Shitsville, Bomb, Piñata, High, Harold's, Deeper
Least favourite songs: Watts, Thuggin', Robes

I'm not a huge fan of the gangster style rap here but the samples are sonics are pretty cool.

When listening to the main list I made it a point to never skip a song and listen to each and every one. And I really thought that would continue, but I realized life is too short to listen to music I hate as much as this.

So this album seems to be about... mysogyny! Great. Love that for us.

The production courtesy of Madlib does a lot of heavy lifting in this album, to the point where I would say this album is only truly worth listening because of him, but it does benefit Freddie Gibbs due to the fact that the start the album, Gibbs is incredibly dull, but over time you come to appreciate him more, to the point where you're generally enjoying the whole package. Some of the bars are generic gangster stuff, yeah, but there's more introspection here the deeper you get than you would expect, and there's a solid groove throughout that makes it so you start to kind of just sit back and enjoy the ride. Again, this is mostly due to Madlib's production being phenomenal, with great samples and crisp loops, but its still a smooth enough experience, despite the talk of violence and sex permeating throughout the album. It does go on a tad long, however, as I think, to compare it to another Madlib project, Madvillainy, knew when to cut it off in the forties, while this has some fluff that repeats not only topics in the lyrics, but also samples and beats that sound very similar to songs sometimes just before it. At first this can make it feel cohesive, but as it nears the ending you tend to be ready for things to wrap up. Still, a very good release, and I'm happy to see that seemingly anything Madlib touches turns to gold, as I may not have explored Gibbs' catalogue without his contributions.

Madlib's beats are fire as always. Freddie is an amazing rapper as well. I just find his lyrics really trite with all the "bitches and hoes" and "I do so many drugs" crap. It's just such a cliche.

Liked this, despite the immature misogyny in places.
Rated 5/10
Mid-10s rap. Didn't really make me feel any kind of way, but seems like it was fun to make.

Madgibbs!
Sounds so Wu-Tang influenced, it would have been more surprising if The Chef didn't turn up! Loads of other great guest verses too, especially Mac and Earl, but Freddie remains the star of the show.
Production is flawless (of course)

Enjoyed this, proper good hip hop, would I come back to it, not sure
Rated 2/10
A lot of things that should never have been said are said on this vile album.
Rated 6/10
I like the beats more than the rhymes, but it's an interesting blend.
