Rated 8/10

The vocals felt week, but the instrumentation was deep and dense, great listen

Rated 6/10

Interesting mix of brutality and beauty, but probably didn't really connect with it.

Rated 4/10

Probably one of the coolest album covers I've seen in a minute. The more you look at it, the more you see.

But, that is where the good ends... This is listed as Avant-garde metal, whatever the fuck that is..... (oh, a hipsters way of saying experimental metal I guess...) It's like slow, atmospheric orchestral type stuff with random bursts of thrashy black metal and screaming...

Also, remember that moron John Zorn? We had one of his albums on the original list... (Spy VS Spy: The Music of Ornette Coleman). The dude that is credited with creating the genre of thrash jazz? Yeah that guy..... This band were signed to his record label, Tzadik Records, at the time of the recording of this album. That should tell you everything you need to know about this fucking pile.

Admittedly, the song The Manifold Curiosity is solid, but the rest of the album is way too out there for me. Jazz and Black Metal shouldn't be put together.

Favourite songs: The Manifold Curiosity

Least favourite songs: A Pitcher of Summer, Marathon

Interesting but not entirely sure this works. I guess it does for some people.

Rated 6/10

Solid progressive metal. It doesn't blow me away or anything but I dig it. There's some good quiet parts that balance out the heavier sections.

Rated 8/10

John Zorn meets Opeth meets Neurosis meets Jeff Buckley meets Pink Floyd meets Grindcore meets Jazz

Rated 6/10

Oh bother. This throws a lot of sonics at the wall during these long, amorphous songs with spoken word, oboes, and death rattles.

Rated 5/10

"Avant-Garde Metal" but really it's pretty standard post-rock that sometimes screams at you.

Rated 8/10

Really enjoyed this, such a diverse metal album spanning different styles and then jumping back to heavy parts. Great choice.

Rated 8/10

prog-metal, but even more complex than you might imagine. This is a good thing though!
