Like this a little more than the one on the main list, or maybe I was just more in tune with it today. Either way, I think this just reaches a four on the user list scale.

A very sharp turn away from the album from the book, BoC attempt something spookier. This album has a very haunted atmosphere (I don't know what "Hauntology" is but if it should apply to anything it's probably this), not in like a haunted house way, but in a more "village in the countryside and you've stumbled upon something you haven't". It has a weirdly pastoral and old folky feeling, helped by some interesting percussion instruments, chanting, and woodwinds, most notably a flute that plays on a lot of the tracks.

Another interesting aspect of this album is that it's intentionally lo-fi at times. BoC know how to make good sounding albums, and that is present here too, but noisy and low quality sound is used to create a nebulous feeling (compare the start of Julie and Candy to the main hook, as an example), again to create that eerie sound. They also utilize a lot of auto tune, which on the surface sounds weird given that BoC are almost entirely instrumental, but here it's used (along with back asking) to create incomprehensible cultish sounding songs.

Should it be in the main list: Yes, 100%. I understand why it isn't since BoC already have representation, but this album is very unique.

Top 3 songs: Gyroscope, Sunshine Recorder, 1969

It's such a solid concept. It doesn't hold up for an hour, but no matter which half hour you pick it's gonna be good

An hour of lo-fi electronica garbage. The one Boards of Canada album we had on the original list (Music Has the Right to Children) was more than enough of this shit thanks...

How can a whole country, just as a rule, make such shit music... Scotland really lost the plot after the bagpipes/Celtic music. All this modern music is utter garbage.

Literally 1 hr where NOTHING HAPPENS..... AT ALL!!! What a waste of a vote, and my time... I think the album included in the original 1001 list was better than this trash. I gave it a 3, but this is a hard 1. I just have no patience for this garbage any more. There was way too much of it on the original list.

Favourite songs: Music is Math... I guess?

Least favourite songs: The Devil is in the Details, Gyroscope, Dawn Chorus, ... all of those 30sec - 1min dumb fucking "songs"... and the rest of this garbage

Ihan jees, vaikkakin vähän ylipitkä ja sisältää luonnosmaisia lyhytbiisejä. 4/5

Rated 4/10

Just like the Boards of Canada album in the main list, I forgot I was listening to it at one point.

Rated 8/10

I don't know if I find this better then the one on the generator, or if I just like this style of music more, but this is great nonetheless. Just mysterious and off putting enough to be engaging without trying to bait an uncomfortable response, and it's surprisingly catchy for how low profile it can be. It just needs to cut off some of the fat near the end, even if it was just going for that sixty-six minutes and six seconds thing.

Rated 8/10

Starts you off on the chill beats to study & relax to, but then as the thing goes on it starts weaving in weirder samples & more intricate structures. Very fun capital-A Album experience

Rated 4/10

Increasingly convinced that "Music Has The Right to Children" was a one-off, a lightning-in-the-bottle moment that could never be repeated*. "Geogaddi" is OK, but it can't quite match the unconscious weirdness of "Music," and occasionally and unfortunately resembles a Moby record or that kind of hideous "chill" that BoC inspired. It's far too long as well.
*I've actually realised this is a lie because their Peel Session is stupendous.

Rated 6/10

Worth its place on the list, but do find it a bit tiresome to come back to.

Rated 2/10

Overrated band loved by no one walking around outside in real life.
