Rated 8/10
Solid shoegazey-esque pop rock. Maybe could have a spot on the list
Rated 8/10
Ornate, orchestral, densely layered. It sometimes peters out into strings vamping and electro flickering bleeps, but the higher energy tracks where the guitars take over and lead the brass and chamber orchestra through some proper rock work really well. The vocals are wispy and hushed, modulated and buried/blended into the mix. The drums alternate between jazzy tinkling and propulsive motorik and when the gritty dirty bass drops it kicks the whole thing into gear. A bit more pop and energy, but lots of hazy shoegaze style to it.
Rated 5/10
Characteristic indie of the era. Little bit beholden to Aeroplane, kinda post-rock-ish, pretty fun time.
Rated 2/10
At what point does artistic expression just become garbage? Here. Right here. As a Canadian, I apologize that this trash exists. These idiots call themselves a "musical collective". What that means is that there are about 75 different musical styles taking place on this one record. All of them blow. Some less than others... But all it means is that this album has absolutely no cohesion. It's like I've just listened to a compilation album of 14 different artists... None of them good... This right here is why I hate indie. Trash like this is allowed to exist. It's a hard no from me.
Favourite songs: 7/4 (Shoreline), Fire Eye'd Boy
Least favourite songs: Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day), Major Label Debut, Finish Your Collapse and Stay for Breakfast, Windsurfing Nation, Handjobs for the Holidays, Bandwitch, It's All Gonna Break
1/5.....one point simply because the song title "Handjobs for the Holidays" is hilarious.
Rated 6/10
A neat album with a lot of potential energy, but it seems disorganized and like they're throwing too many ideas on this record at once, making it feel bloated and a bit boring. I would guess You Forgot It in People would be a bit better.
Rated 8/10
I had a lot going on yesterday, so I didn't really take this in at all, but what I paid attention to sounded pretty good?
Rated 6/10
A csat of thousands, and a bit disjointed at times as a result. Still good, but sprawling and lacking focus
Rated 6/10
goofy ambient album that was ahead of its time and saw the indie rock tidal wave coming at it. Big for the indie rockers but this one can go on its merry way for me.
Rated 6/10
Good indie rock album, I’d have it on my list but not one of my overall favourites.
