Maybe I'm a philistine, but many Queen albums are served best by listening to the songs on the best of and skipping the rest. This one falls into that category. Really high highs with Good Old Fashion Lover Boy and Somebody to Love, and the rest is fine. Tie Your Mother down is also on their best of, but is not my favorite.

Somebody To Love a perennial classic. Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy another one. Queen really shines best when they lean into the opera fusion, the straight ahead blues rock just doesn't show why they were special. Yea side 2 is what carries this record, side 1 just doesn't have the staying power.

Queen doesn't miss honestly. One of the GOATs.

I've realised that I really don't like Queen at all, but that every album I listen to includes one track that I do really, really like. Unfortunately, I can't remember which track it was, and I'm not inclined to find out.

I genuinely think this is Queen's best album. Sure, it doesn't have a Bohemian Rhapsody or a The Shoe Must Go On, but it makes up for it in just having an insane amount of range and style. You get anything from classical crossover style Take My Breath Away from to the Big Star-esque Long Away. From pop masterpieces like Somebody to Love and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, to the more experimental Teo torriate and Drowse. The whole album isn't 100% perfect, but it just has so much charm that I can't help but love it when compared to most of Queen's other albums post Queen II. It just has that unique style that doesn't make Queen feel like just another rock band that successfully crossed into the pop world. At least, not yet. I think a combination of this and A Night at the Opera would be one of the best albums ever, but for the meantime this is still fantastic.

A fun, beautiful, playful little piece of an album. Its arias charm me into a daydream.

Ihan ok Queen-levy, muttei kumminkaan yhtä menevä kuin ne paremmat.
Rated 6/10
Queen somehow has some of the most amazing songs ever recorded while simultaneously having some of the most meh albums of all time. There is always at least one and usually two or three great songs on an album and the rest of it is just fine. Somebody is great, the rest of the album? It's okay.

It's Queen, you already know what they're about. I don't know if I fully get why they're naming their albums after Marx Bros movies like this.
Rated 8/10
A Night at the Opera is my favourite Queen album, so it makes sense that A Day at the Races ranks above Queen II for me.
If there’s room for one more Queen album on the list, this is it.
Rated 10/10
Not their best work, still a five star album!
