Reviews

Rated 8/10

After an album of passable rock with occasionally interesting lyrics (I've been dragged to the Clairmont Lounge) I was surprised how much I liked Ex-Americans

Rated 8/10

Not the most original, but good songwriting and decent variety

Rated 8/10

A bit of a surprise. It starts off feeling like fairly straightforward 90s-style alt-rock, but quickly shows there’s more going on beneath the surface.

The production is uneven, and the music alone doesn’t always carry it, but the songwriting is strong. This is clearly a lyrics-first record. The sarcasm, cynicism, and especially the use of religious imagery become more interesting as they point to the failure of the very institutions they reference.

The songs gain weight once you tune into what’s being said.

Rated 6/10

Plenty energy and skill, just missing a bit of magic. Love the variety of sounds and styles though

Rated 4/10

It's a rock album that didn't stick to my memory at all as I write the review two days later.
