Wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did. Really, REALLY great stuff.

Haven't listened to this in twenty years, and I think I like it more now than I did then. Singer's voice works well for me, I like the sax.

I have never heard The Zutons and I knew exactly what this would sound like. 1.85

I enjoyed listening to this quite a bit. It would probably be a 4 star album, except at some point they decided that they had to use every instrument in the studio. I didn't think that worked and it pulled me out of the listening experience at times. So it's an okay record, I'll probably listen to it again. But I don't know if I'll actively seek to put it on.

Rated 8/10

It's an incredibly fun album, both rhythmically and lyrically interesting.

Better than I expected

Fun listen!
Nothing super memorable, but I’m not mad at it.
Could be a good road trip album.

Rated 4/10

Entertaining aughts indie that occasionally touches on a few unique genres for flavor. It's neat but doesn't really feel essential enough to justify its inclusion here, especially with its clear heavy influence from The Coral.

Rated 6/10

Sov nok plade, godt med lidt for druknet sax!
Ikke helt sikkert på hvorfor den er på listen, men jeg nød den

Rated 4/10

I'm increasingly convinced that people just forgot how to make and enjoy good music sometime around the year 2000.

Rated 8/10

Never heard of them before, great music tho!

Rated 6/10

This is funny. A lot of different styles. It's not too bad.

Rated 4/10

Mmmm me he aburrido. Suena bien y el saxofón siempre es un extra, pero no ha terminado de brillar. Me guardo "Not a lot to do". ¿Imprescindible? no. ¿Hay que escucharlo? no pasa nada por hacerlo, pero no pasará a mi lista de favoritos.

Rated 4/10

Unique use of the sax in a non-ska setting. Unfortunately it doesn't really hold my interest all that much. I just chalk up the Zutons at the end of of a long list of anonymous early to mid aughts rock bands (Klaxons, The Bravery, etc.) 2/5

Rated 8/10

Instantly transported me back to various student house parties in Glasgow in the months following its release - an album that probably won't mean much to anyone from anywhere or anywhen else, but to people who were 17-22 in britain when it came out, it is a solid shot of nostalgia

Rated 2/10

Rock revival ala Black Crows but for the post Strokes era. They're pretty eclectic in their influences and have a wide range of sounds/styles on the album - classic rock, funk, folk, ska, balkan jazz, indie pop, and alt country - and to go with that there's very diverse instrumentation. It's an enjoyable but pretty unoriginal album though - they're like a really good local band but with a pretty defined ceiling. Boomer hegemony is when a perfectly fine but nothing remarkable band like this is included in a list of essential albums because of how well they hue to the same preconceived template of guitar-based rock that conservatively defines the cannon.

Favorites: Not a Lot to Do, Remember Me

Another 00’s group I’ll give a bias rating too because I’m a big fan of the Zutons and think they are very underrated. Not an album I’d recommend to everyone but one I enjoy myself and always come back to, so 4 stars.

My housemate was a huge fan of The Zutons so I saw them loads live around this era and prior, nice guys and pleasant enough music but WHY is this on the list?

Rated 8/10

Yet another ex-1001 album!™

I have a soft spot for The Zutons, oh-oh, I can do my "my bessie mate's brother is bessie mates with the singer's brother" thing, yeah yeah, I bore myself sometimes.

4 for nostalgia, the Scouse connection and great banging tunes!

Rated 6/10

The inclusion of (I think) a saxophone is a nice touch to stand out, but it doesn't help the Zutons from sounding like every other band of this era any way. Certainly not a bad sound, but I feel had I heard this in passerby nothing would've stood out to me. The more country-like influenced tracks here are weird too, just feel off. Light three.
