Garage honkeytonk with some punk more than blues, but it just doesn't click.
Rated 8/10
This album is bizarre. Crunchy. Punk. Nonsense lyrics. Jams and grooves. Seems pretty far from normal blues. Maybe that's what blues sounds like exploding? It's a cool little jam.
Rated 8/10
You can't fool me, I know punk rock when I hear it. Maybe it's psychobilly. Whatever it is, it's rad. Album of the week.
Rated 4/10
Now we know why the Blues died. Almost every other blues album I've heard is better simply by virtue of not choosing to be annoying. There's more sounds of dying fowl then blues chords on this record. Points for creativity, so 2 stars.
1.5/5.0: Bad

Solid album

So all over the place damn.
Rated 2/10
What a colossal waste of time.
I guess the type of person who think starting an album with an obnoxiously loud and distorted scream, is also the type of person that believes the rest of this nonsense album could be interesting to anyone not involved in making it.
After surviving the first track, there's still more than an hour of this muck to wade through. Lord have mercy.
Rated 6/10
It’s an incredibly bold and incredibly stupid choice to put two of your 4 worst songs (Skunk & Fuck Shit Up) at the very front of the album, but somehow, what emerges from it is a shockingly nice 36 minute jam session full of really good, diverse energy.
There are still points where the production is a fucking cacophonic mess, but those moments show up less and less after Fuck Shit Up, and by Track 7, the album actually becomes a fun listen up until the final 2 tracks, where it goes back into the bad habits of Skunk & Fuck Shit Up. Really experimental, avant-garde, greasy grungy garage rock that somehow hits on some of my sensibilities from about Tracks 5 through 14, and that’s most of the album, which is a miracle after that abysmal opening.
To put it bluntly, this is the album Apocalypse Dudes fucking wishes it could have been, and it pulls off a bigger comeback than the Patriots did in Super Bowl 51. It is a 3 as a whole, but the good songs on this album, I would genuinely rate a 4.

Another surprise home run that makes me so glad I started this project! I had heard of this band before, but somehow never listened to them. I don't know exactly what I *thought* they were, but it certainly wasn't the awesomeness that I just had the pleasure of hearing!
This album is searing, aggressive, technical, and so damned fun. it starts with a weird, primal scream and gets weirder from there. At no point did I ever *really* know what I was listening to, it's so unique and unlike anything else I've heard. Although I could definitely hear the blues inspired riffing in the guitars, this album is more unabashed in-your-face rock than anything else.
An easy 4.5 stars, a hidden gem, and one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in the 80+ albums I've reviewed
Rated 8/10
This album seems to have a lot of negativity on this site. So I didn’t have high hopes, but went in with an open mind.
The opening scream was immediately off putting. But after that the album really picks up and to be honest a mix between punk/psychedelic/blues is right up my street. Really enjoyed this album. So raw but so many hooks to keep you going but yeah some of the lyrics are a bit immature. Overall I think this is a
Great album which is now added to my frequent rotation. Reminds me a lot of black pistol fire, who must of been influenced by this. 4 stars out of 5.

More like Jon Spencer Blows Explosion. 1.5/5
Rated 4/10
I suppose I sort of respect this? I mean, its evident listening to this that there were plenty of early 2000s groups influenced by this project, but at the same time if all of those groups had said they'd never heard of this geoup in their lives I'd believe it? I mean, almost everything here seems like a surface level version of being "out there," without actually doing anything that challenging for the listener, and it leads to an album that feels like a snooze fest more than anything. It tries to wake you by the end with random noises and screaming, but if anything its too little, too late, too loud.

abrasive (compliment)

Big fan of JSBX since high school when I bought an LP of "Orange" cause Beck was on the track "Flavor" and was blown away by the rest. Ended up seeing them multiple times in concert, and you better believe they were great live. This album is like the apex of their creative peak from Orange through Acme, where they really started blurring genre barriers and experimenting more in the studio. It kinda surprises me there's so much disdain for this album on here, when the line between this and The White Stripes, etc. is absolutely clear. Yeah, it's a ton more aggressive and chaotic, but those are good things in my book when it comes to rock n roll.

belbottom! belbottom! belbottom!
Rated 6/10
It started off fairly strong, as noise albums go. I like the guitar, and while it's mostly noise from the singer, I kinda liked it at first. But then it just kept going. And going. And going. Cut the runtime in half and you have something here, otherwise it just seems a little self-indulgent. There's no way that there isn't something that could've been lost in a 80 minute album.
Rated 6/10
Messy, impenetrable lyrics, odd choices of cover versions, and yet, there's something there. Not the best, but one my younger self would probably have liked a lot.
Rated 4/10
I'd heard of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion because they were on the Baby Driver soundtrack. This album is a bit too long, messy and experi-mental.
I'm still laughing at the "Like your drunk neighbors are having open mic night" review. ☝😆
Rated 4/10
Hmmmm. An attempt to sound like the British blues bands of the 60's but 30 years later. It's not terrible, but it doesn't really improve on the originals.
Rated 8/10
This bangs, may be my favourite Jon Spencer album
