What I picture Taylor Swift would be if she wasn't a megalomaniac.

Rated 2/10

The Woolworth's in the background of the album cover is the only place she could convince to play this driveling wannabe-sixties-country-folk pablum.

1.0/5.0: Embarrassing

Rated 6/10

A pleasant enough country/folk album. It felt like it took longer than 30-some minutes but this isn't a genre I typically enjoy. Anyway. 2.7/5-> 3/5

The dance floor will shake at a barn dance in Texas. I am not a Texan and I wouldn't visit such an event. I don't like American-Texan folk music any more than I like German Schlager. I can't get anything out of the music.

Country - pleasant enough banjo n' harmony action from an artist that I'd never heard of previously. Better than other country? Not so much.

Rated 8/10

This was a nice surprise, as I only knew Nanci Griffith for "From A Distance", which I find quite cheesy. There's some really solid songwriting on here though, lovely voice and great banjo playing too from Béla Fleck (of Jingle All the Way fame). I found some of the songs a bit dull, but the standout tracks (Title Track, Love at the Five and Dime, Banks of the Pontchartrain, One of these Days, and Fly by Night) made it worth my while. The production is nice and warm, as a whole the album feels ideal for a road trip or something similar. I like an album that doesnt outstay it's welcome too!

Rated 8/10

Tried and true americana songwriting with hokey as hell lyrics and I love it. Inject that bittersweet lapsteel sound straight into my veins. Her voice is great, and the way the other instruments and vocalists float around her melodies, harmonizing and passing the lead back and forth brings an exciting choreographed energy to the arrangements. The little mandolin fills pop in once in a while to kick it up a notch, then the fiddles ease is back down. Very pretty very soothing and a relaxed if melancholy feel. It's extremely faux-rustic tasteful BnB in a converted Vermont cheese barn, but god damn if it doesn't hit you right there in those folksy autumnal feelings.

Rated 4/10

It's not my thing but I don't think it's objectively bad like most country is. She has a good voice and when it pushes more into folk territory I start to enjoy myself more. I just wish the lyrics were less cliche.

Rated 10/10

Today's album is like country folk, which has a genre title. It's called folkabilly, apparently. Pretty solid easy listening record. Nancy's like Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, or, in modern music, like Alison Krauss.

Favourite songs: St. Olav's Gate, Love's Found a Shoulder, Lookin' For the Time (Workin' Girl), Banks of The Pontchartrain, Love at the Five & Dime, More Than a Whisper, The Last of the True Believers, Goin' Gone, One of These Days, Fly By Night

Least favourite songs: The Wing & the Wheel

I’m not normally a country fan, but I enjoyed this. Favorite songs were The Last of the True Believers, Banks of the Pontchartrain, Lookin’ For the Time, and Goin Gone

Nice. Borders on too nice. But overall good playing and writing.

Not a bad country album if you’re in the mood for her voice

Rated 8/10

I was surprised how much I liked this album. Probably a 3.5 for me, I'll round up because I want to listen to it again.

I though the vocals were really good and I enjoyed them. Sort of a cross between folk and country, leaning a little more towards the folk side and I liked it.

Rated 8/10

Hidden gem perhaps? I liked it far more than I anticipated. My kind of country. 3.5/5

Rated 6/10

Pleasant enough country music. I'm not a big country fan, but I didn't mind listening. Liked the last track in particular (The Wing and the Wheel). Love at the Five and Dime wasn't bad either.

Rated 10/10

I can get down with this opening track. Love At The Five And Dime is a great tune! More Than A Whisper is such a strong lyrical song. Banks Of The Pontchartrain is another fucking banger. Goin' Gone is a great tune but it's a little hard for me to listen to right now. Something that shows through in her work is her effortless mastry of blending melody accents and lyrics. It shows off her sterling lyric work and usually catches me. One Of These Days kills. Damn what a fine album.

Another country album

Meh, aika kädenlämpöiseksi jäi. Working girl ihan hauska biisi, muuten ei kovinkaan kiinnostavaa. 2/5.
