Based on description alone I expected to hate this. Honestly though, it's not awful. Electronic dance music is not my style, and it's nothing I would probably ever listen to again, but I don't find it offensive. Some of the composition is interesting, and for the most part it is pleasant. I understand why others would be drawn to it.

Rated 4/10

You can add "alternative dance" to the list of genres I have zero interest in.

I've been a fan of Hot Chip for a while, though I haven't listened to this album before. I've always seen them as a singles band, the few albums I've listened to are inconsistent (at their lowest: mid, at their best: fantastic), this album hasn't really changed my opinion on that, however this is the most consistent they've been.

The highs on this album (obvious picks are Motion Sickness, and Flutes, but I'd put Night and Day in there too) are nothing short of phenomenal, Flutes in particular (I knew the song prior to listening to the album) is one of the best pop songs of the 21st century in my opinion. The songs in-between are for the most part quite well put together, there's a few dips in quality, but there is a pretty significant gulf between these songs and their best.

Rated 6/10

It's a pretty solid, upbeat and bouncy album, but it doesn't ever reach beyond that. There's some good tracks in here, but nothing particularly standout. It's just generally a good time.

Rated 8/10

This is surprisingly better than expected. Would not be a bad album for a long road trip.

Rated 6/10

Solides Album aus abwechslungsreichen Gesangseinlagen, Technoelementen und Popeinflüssen. Es ist kein fesselndes aber ein ordentliches Album. Von den Songs stach “Look At Where We Are” hervor und gefiel mir sogar besser als “Flutes”.

I struggled with Hot Chip 10/15 years ago except for that one "Ready For The Floor" song and that's not on this, so I still struggle today, because nothing really stands out.

Rated 10/10

Oh man! I went in for some reason thinking this was a 90s act, then when the thing got going I was like "wow this sounds like something straight out of 2011". And then here we are! Really pleasant surprise, wasn't expecting danceable indie-pop + adjacent to get representation on here. no less dated than the 90s electronica, but it's dated to an era that I actually got some nostalgia for, dammit

A few seconds in, I can tell I'm going to enjoy this.
I enjoy their more upbeat tracks, not a fan of the slower tracks like Look at Where We Are.
I was really hyped for this, thinking it would be at least 4*, but it didn't hold strong. 3*. About half to a third of songs I like.
Enjoyed: Ends of the earth, let me be him, motion sickness, don't deny your heart
I like How do you do, but the religious lyrics irk me.
Ok, on second listen I'm more inclined to give this 4*. There's a lot of really cool moments in this album. Night and day has a cool funky start.

Rated 4/10

I like some earlier Hot Chip, but I found this effort mildly annoying, and question its place on the list. If we're talking albums from 2012, I'd nominate either Tame Impala's "Lonerism" or Death Grips' "The Money Store" to take its place. Hell, I'd even take Grimes' "Visions" over this.

Mijn eerste gedachte is. Dus toch goed 1001-materiaal.

Rated 6/10

Soild 2010s electronic album, deserves its place on this list.

Rated 4/10

I like some of Hot Chip's earlier songs (from The Warning and Made in the Dark), but after two listens of the album, it doesn't really do much for me. The production is quite good, but I don't think the songwriting measures up. The only memorable song to me is Night & Day, which is memorable in the most annoying way! The singer's voice really grates after a while.
