You finally got me Miles, I quite enjoyed this.

Ich bin mir immer unsicher bei Miles Davis. Dem letzten Album hab ich 5 Sterne gegeben, die kann ich hier nicht geben.
Das zweite Lied hat mir besser als das erste gefallen.

Tricky to judge this, did I like it? In places, yes. Would I listen again? Probably not.

This and Birth of Cool are by far in a way his best....

I do enjoy jazz but some of this album is just very slow, almost too ethereal for me to stay with.

I’m at a 5, and I’m glad I get to say a little more than “it’s just good jazz”.

It’s good jazz with a little bit of a rock flair to it, and that distinction adds a bit of depth. It’s not an overwhelming rock flair – you’re not gonna get an extreme hybrid with like, a sick guitar solo in here, but the instrumentation of traditional jazz mixed with the electric guitar and synth-driven keyboards is blended together really well, in such a way that neither overpowers the other too much to be a distraction.

Shhh / Peaceful does feel like the “lesser” of the two songs here, but it’s like picking between two different slices of pizza – at the end of the day, it’s still pizza. There’s not a wrong pick, one just might feel more flavorful. In this case, “In A Silent Way” is the more flavorful for me. Starting with the almost Eno-esque droning tones, before going into a really fun trumpet & keyboard driven riff held together by a super catchy bassline, then finishing back on the Eno-esque tones with a little more of the middle part involved, just caught my ear more.

Ultimately, this album really succeeds through its simplicity; there are ways this could’ve gone wrong, but it never does. It doesn’t go too risky, and I think that’s the correct choice. It plays itself super safe, so it’s not as engaging as Birth of the Cool or Kind of Blue, but the different style of production makes the comparison feel a little weird. I can honestly boil it down to “I just liked it.” If Bitches Brew is indeed this but even better, I cannot wait for that to pop up on the list. As far as this album goes though, it’s a 5.

Better than expected experience.

A really good album by a jazz great. Not jaw dropping or iconic, but good nonetheless. 3.3/5 -> 3/5

Stellar line up of musicians. You can really hear what Jazz Fusion was about to become and how the next decade was gonna look.

mr davis kinda disappointed me on this one, still good though

After listening to In A Silent Way, it is a pretty decent jazz album and a pretty decent step above the last Miles Davis album i looked at. This one, like i already said, seems to take a different approach from Birth Of The Cool (The previous Miles Davis album i did). While that previous album had a bunch of different songs which sounded generally similar to each other, this one had two songs split up into 3 sections each with the third one being a continuation of the first. I do like this style more since it allows the songs to be stand out much more from each other and the songs in general feel pretty darn relaxing. This album isn't exactly anything amazing but its still a pretty solid effort.
Best Song: In A Silent Way / It's About That Time
Worst Song: Shhh / Peaceful
(Side note: Honestly, i don't even know why i'm picking a best and worst song for this album since there is just two songs but i guess i can just say i liked the second song more than the first one)

Listen to this made me feel anxious. Clearly not the right headspace for me for this album on this day.

Rated 4/10

Nope. Boring and too long

It was alright on the whole, but there were some awful screechy trumpet noises that made me want to cry

I wish I could have listened to this In A Silent Way

2 ⭐️

Oh yea. Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea on this album make it tops. this was a very soothing album for me

Rated 8/10

Sophisticated Jazz

Rated 4/10

I just don’t know what separates good jazz from bad jazz. I can tell you I liked this album more than the last miles Davis album I listened to. This was much more interesting, lots of electronic, computer-ish sounds. Still, at its core, it’s jazz. Is it good? Who know! But I’ll never listen to it on purpose.

Rated 8/10

Only 2 songs? Enjoyed jazz, or whatever subgenre of jazz this is meant to be.

Rated 4/10

Ya like JAZZ?
Sometimes, but not this album. All I could focus on during track 1 is the constant hats, and sometimes it feels like too much or the song overstays its welcome.

Track 2 feels long but it's better than track 1 as the hats are gone and it is smoother and calmer.

Rated 4/10

Very chill, chill to the point of boredom. This is not for me at all. This is perfect lift or hold music. Jazz fusion, never again!!!

Favourite song: either track 1 or 2
Least favourite: either track 1 or 2

Extremely my shit. Mesmerizing bass and organs and some trance inducing drumming set a deep groove as a platform for the guitar, electric piano, and especially MD's trumpet to go off. It settles into some quite contemplative dawn moods with a shimmering vibrato sound and sunrise soloing, then heats back up for some spikey intense jamming. Music dorks in the 60s were really afraid of electricity and it was very stupid.
