Better than I thought it'd be, although massively of it's time. I've not knowingly ever played this before but I seemingly recognised every track, probably soundtracked multiple stoned evenings at university

Before today the only Fun Lovin' Criminals song I was familiar with was Scooby Snacks. It was literally everywhere in the 90's. I was interested to find out if they were just a one hit wonder, or if there was some more gems on this record. Turns out it was the latter. These guys are like Beastie Boys Lite.... Kinda that hip hop/rock stuff that was big in the 90's.

Overall, a pretty enjoyable record. Definately one I will revisit in the future!

Favourite songs: Scooby Snacks, The Fun Lovin' Criminal, Bear Hug, Passive/Aggressive, Bombin' the L, Crime and Punishment

Least favourite songs: Methadonia, We Have All The Time In The World

I remember the songs Scooby Snacks and Fun Lovin’ Criminal from my youth. They were not my favourites back then, but they had a catchy vibe.

However, listening to the whole album now, I now realise how bad it is. I have no idea how it ended up in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Rap rock is a genre that has not aged well, and this album is one of the worst examples I have listened to recently. The lyrics are cheesy, the music is bland and the vocals are annoying. The only redeeming quality is that it is not too long, so it does not torture you for too long. It barely deserves two stars out of five.

Rated 8/10

The suave combination of rock, hiphop, soul, jazz, funk and humour makes for a cool and smooth listen. Colourful stories with lots of samples (that have been replayed by themselves it seems as to not have to pay too many royalties) make that this album doesn't sound dated.

Just 3 friends making music and having a lot of fun.

"Scooby Snacks" is a lot of fun, Tarantino quotes and all, but top 1001 of ALL TIME. Behave yourselves.

Rated 6/10

Very surprisingly solid. One album that I was shocked to find on this list, as it didn't have that much of a cultural impact in the states. But definitely more than the single. 3/5

Very interesting album. Instrumentally it's a mix of jazz and lounge rock but then throwing rap on top of it really makes for a weird combination that works way better than it should. Sounds very New York for sure.

Rated 8/10

Great fun, with a handful of classics and a fair bit of (still pretty enjoyable) filler. Huey has such an engaging presence that it elevates any mediocre tracks, and the music moves between genres with great fluidity.

Rated 6/10

A bit of funk/R&B, a dash of hip-hop, and a dose of machismo in places. It's a musical cocktail that promises to intoxicate but falls a bit flat after the first few sips. Highlights for me were the slower jams, that had the whole band working out a funk vibe together while the lyrics just sort of slid across the track. Tracks like 'The Grave And The Constant', 'Smoke 'Em', 'Come Find Yourself' and 'Methadonia'.

I'm on the balance of 2 and 3 starts, but I'll err on the side of 3 since I wouldn't be opposed to hearing the album again. If I was looking for something along the lines of this vibe, I'd probably look for Citizen Cope or Everlast's Whitey Ford material.

Rated 4/10

I lived through the 90s and I don't remember this band at all. And I'm perfectly happy to forget about them now.

Rated 6/10

The first half of this album is a lot of fun, the second half not so much. The singles are definitely the best songs, however I don't think they are meant to be taken too seriously! Some of the later cuts (like Bear Hug) are a bit cringy. Overall though a light hearted and unusual album, I like the fusion of rap, jazz and Latin music on here.

Rated 2/10

Straight up does not belong on this list. I'm honestly baffled as to how this was even a consideration. Listened to this as a private session on Spotify so it didn't show up in my history.

Rated 6/10

50% decent hip-hop with a touch of trip-hop, 50% utter cringe wannabe gangster. It gets a star for being a welcome antidote to the bland indie that dominated UK airwaves at the time.

Rated 8/10

Cool hip-hop rock fusion sounds. Scooby Snacks is a great single. We Have All The Time In The World is a really refreshing mid album break.

Escuché este disco y el siguiente de este grupo casi sin descanso en los 90 y luego me olvidé de ellos. Lo siento, sigue sonando bien y tiene temazos como The Fun Lovin' Criminal, Scooby Snacks, King of New York o Bear Hug.
