ihan hauska pop-rock-levy, mukavaa irrottelua mukana. 3/5
Rated 6/10
Nonsense, but enjoyable nonsense. Pretty samey, with one massive hit that stands out probably only because it is so well known. Good, but not great, but shows signs of something worth doing, and a chance of a good career (which they managed).
I think I'd probably prefer their greatest hits, which isn't usually the case for most bands.

I love the B-52s. Especially this album is fantastic. Planet Claire and Rock Lobster are ma absolute favourites. Every time I hear Rock Lobster I‘m wearing a wide smile. This is really fun.

"somebody went under a dock, and there they found a rock. it wasn't a rock, it was a rock lobster"
Weeeeeeeeird album. but it doesn't take itself too seriously, either. it's like the wacky conspiracy theory aunt of albums, maybe it's like the bar that has some crude humor as wall art. i found myself hating it just as often as i found myself somewhat enjoying it, but it did give me a headache, and i don't think i would listen again. that being said, if i found this record on vinyl at a vintage store, i'd probably end up picking it up.
Parts of 52 Girls was good, but the lead singer's voice is super nasally and headache-inducing. Rock lobster is a classic, but overstays it's welcome (playlist). There's a moon in the sky (called the moon), is such a funny title for a track, and is listenable. beyond the annoying nasal voice, the guy that just like talks into the tracks gets super annoying as well, I can only stand 1 B-52 song at a time.

Totally weird. And totally awesome. I'm not sure how this works exactly but it does. Love it. ROCK LOBSTA!

I thought this would be right up my alley, but it's just okay. I think it isn't funky enough for my taste, and I don't see this album doing anything that Talking Heads doesn't do better. It has got some pretty funny and non-serious lyrics, which I appreciate quite a bit.

Ten years after this, Love Shack was ubiquitously annoying, but at this point, the B-52s were goofy, spiky, surfy, punky fun.
Rated 4/10
Having only heard love shack before wasn’t expecting much from this album, so I was pleasantly surprised, still became a drag near the end though. Not one I’ll be rushing back to.

The B-52's were a new wave, post punk band, most famous for the song Love Shack, and Rock Lobster.
This was their debut album. Their sound blends "surf rock" guitars with heavy synth backing and weird psychadelic, nonsensical lyrics.
I enjoy the male/female vocal dynamic. This music is weird, but in a good way. Some of their stuff was too out there for me (like when their singing doesn't mesh with the time signature that the instruments are playing) but overall, I can see how many bands that came later drew influence from this band.
Overall, an interesting listen today. Before this I was only familiar with their hits, but discovered a few more songs I hadn't heard before, but really liked.
Favourite songs: Rock Lobster, Lava, 6060-842 (6060 842)
Least favourite songs: 52 Girls, Planet Claire, Hero Worship, Downtown

Ugh

The surfer heartbeat of this band has so much groove. The contrasting vocal styles is like you took everything about 60's surf culture, polished it to a mirror, and shot it back at the world. This album kicks ass.

Fun and kitschy album. Definitely very front-heavy. Rock Lobster is obviously just an absolute classic.

Hey, I've heard this band before. Took 4 days to get to a band I know!
First time listening to a whole album straight through, though.
Toe-tapping fun! I think I like late 70s/early 80s New Wave. I don't know if I knew that Rock Lobster was that long of a song.

Love the B52s sound. So different for the time...especially coming out of Athens Georgia. Just fun songs all around. 4/5

I started out thinking I was going to like this a lot. Then it went downhill. The songs all sound a like and the droning that I enjoyed for the first couple tracks quickly became grating. The cover of Downtown is particularly odd.

Some days everyone needs a bit of Rock Lobster in their lives. For me, yesterday was one of those days. Great upbeat tunes, I was bopping along all day!
Rated 4/10
The schtick wears thin pretty quick. Like the female vocals but that's about it. Don't want to listen to it again.
