You just canโt go wrong with some Dire Straits
Rated 8/10
Great Dire Straits tracks are amazing. Poor Dire Straits tracks are pretty boring. Honestly I think the great to poor ration on this album is skewed in the wrong direction, but it's hard to go below 4.
Rated 6/10
Cosy or terribly bland. You decide. It's too bland for me, but I can't say I dislike it.

Classic 80s rock ๐ค
Rated 8/10
This is a four star album with a few five star songs on it. Title track in particular is really great. And Knopfler's guitar playing is impeccable. I think there are Dire Straits albums I like more, but this is still a high four.

it has money for nothing so it cant be a 1
Rated 6/10
A few decent tracks in the vein of classic dad rock. The rest of the album is just ok. Itโs kinda there. Not really doing anything. You donโt really need them

Creรญ que conocรญa solo dos canciones de este disco y al final eran cuatro y me las he guardado: Money for nothing, Walk of life, Your latest trick y Brothers in arms. Mucho mejor de lo que esperaba.

Couldn't be any other way, so, why worry?

This is the first cassette I ever completely wore out (and was devastated when I did). Very early influential album for me that is steeped in childhood memories. I still know almost every lyric on it, even the deeper cuts. That being said, I don't find that it aged well. It sounds really dated. Production is very '80s; sterile and synth heavy, which feels so wrong for a guitar based blues/rock band. Even the guitar tones are manipulated to sound like a synthesizer on many tracks. Really off-putting. The ballads are unlistenable.

This is a much more dynamic album than 1978's "Dire Straits" (previously reviewed). But I'm not sure if that means it's better. If Dire Straits was a bunch of songs all iterating the same idea, this album is a bunch of ideas competing for album time.
"Money For Nothing" and "Walk Of Life" were big 'ol hits, so this album sold a lot of copies. Then there's tracks like "Your Latest Trick" which starts with a long saxophone intro that's a little reminiscent of a Herb Alpert bossa nova trumpet part... uh, what? And African flutes and a lot of Pink Floyd vibes on "Ride Across The River". Despite all of that, the album still just feels lethargic. As unimpressed as I was with the self titled album, I think I preferred that to this?
Rated 4/10
I definitely prefered the self-titled album. This one actively irritated me because of the bloated length of songs, and general lack of anything going on in between some good guitar sections
Rated 6/10
Very american. That was my first thought. I knew the hits already but that's all I liked really.
Rated 10/10
Gorgeous with driving guitar and soulful voice
Rated 8/10
Hurts me to not be able to give this one a 5. The guitar tone alone is fantastic. The beginning and end of this album is legendary shit. Money For Nothing is on here! But Why Worry and Ride Across The River drag this one down for me.

Sure, everyoneโs seen the ๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐บ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ video โ a defining MTV moment โ but as an album, ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ณ๐ฎ๐ด just drifts by. Itโs beautifully produced and polished to perfection, yet that same smoothness makes it feel distant and sleepy. Technically flawless, emotionally flat.

I feel bad about this because Mark Knopfler seems like a good dude and a good guitarist, but I really hated this album. Schlocky, shmaltzy, 80s pop. Ick.
Rated 10/10
Since I listen to this album over and over again, writing a review today is really easy for me. Brothers in Arms is truly a great album. 5/5
Rated 6/10
Cool album, beautifully mixed.
Rated 8/10
some songs that are so called evergreens
