This type of Prince just doesn't resonate with me as much as I would hope it to. Maybe I need to give it more listens. 2.5/5

Mainio synalevy Prinssiltä! 4/5

The sheer breadth he covers on this album is impressive, but it’s all so Prince. This earns its hefty length unlike many other double albums out there. Very few artists can make a song as good as The Cross. Sad this is the last Prince album I get to review for the list.

Sign 'O' The Times was a much more enjoyable album than i thought it was going to be. This one is a double album so you know there would be a lot of songs and with that hopefully, a lot of variety. This album did have a decent bit of variety while still sticking to a defined sound throughout. The main reason i like this album is mainly the music though. They often had some really cool instruments like the Sega Genesis sounding bass among others and the rhythms were cool too. Prince's vocal work had a Michael Jackson style flair to it and that i really enjoyed. This album isn't perfect but it is a great palate cleanser after the garbage i listened to yesterday.
Best Song: U Got The Look
Worst Song: Starfish And Coffee

I’m sure for most people there’s at least one well respected musician that they just don’t get. For me that is Prince. I could not stand this album. His production always sounds cheesy to me, and his voice is annoying.

I'm not sure that we needed three Prince albums.

There still are better Prince albums. This wasn't that good.
Rated 4/10
Very 1980s production. I definitely wouldn't listen to this again
Rated 6/10
This is for sure a unique album by an extremely creative artist. However it’s a bit hit or miss for me.
Rated 8/10
Less familiar with this later '80s Prince. Still solid though. Lots of nods to '70s era soul. Did this gut have any misses?
Rated 8/10
Really good - but not even close to his best!
Rated 4/10
Title track aside nothing on this really stood out and for a double album that's a lot of hard listening. Very disjointed, very over indulgent...
Rated 6/10
Prince again. He always sounds like his music is made for sex, but set in the 80s/90s.
Rated 4/10
I keep trying, I just can't get that much out of Prince, maybe he was a musical genius. Even though he inspired many other musicians I like, I can't get on with him. And it's the same with this album. Maybe it's great, but I don't feel that way. I probably won't listen to it again.

This is the best 80s-dance, synth-psych, neo-funk, crypto-soul, agit-pop album I've ever heard. Too bad I don't like any of those things. Ok, I take it back synth-psych sounds like it could be good.

Heck yeah
Rated 8/10
Prince at his horniest and weirdest. Still accessible, though, making this such an interesting trip of an album! 4+

Seems, I don't know... too indulgent? Not for me. 2.125

I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" & “The Cross” . Ich war darüberhinaus froh als das Album durch war.

I will say I didn’t get into Prince’s music until after he passed away, and it’s a shame on myself because I’ve enjoyed what I heard thus far including this album.
It’s not perfect, where Sign ‘O’ the Times is a double album (originally a triple album) that can sound dated in places with extensive use of a drum machine. But, I will say a lot of tracks stand out, from the simmering title track that opens the album before kicking into full gear with “Play in the Sunshine”, to the sensual “Slow Love”, to the swagger of the duet “U Got the Look”, and even the admittedly grunge-sounding ballad “The Cross”.
Overall, it’s the kind of funky, groove laden, sexual 80s album you’d expect Prince to make, albeit a bit bloated. I’d divide your listening time into more than one session for Sign ‘O’ the Times, cause it’s certainly enjoyable when you’re not overindulging.
