This was haunting back in 1990, and doubly so now, it has a few upbeat songs like "The Emperor's New Clothes" but it's mostly a maudlin dirgey affair, and extremely moving.
Rated 6/10
Ah, no slurs here, only affirmations. Sinéad is cool, but sometimes her songs are a little bit slow/boring for my preference. There's decent variety on this album though, more than your Jewels or Sarah McLachlans. A moderately pleasant surprise. Kind of like a St. Vincent predecessor.
Highlight: 'Three Babies' (lotta baby talk on this record)
Rated 6/10
The Good: Makes sense to not want what you don’t have.
The Bad: Seeing the economy take a tumble as there is no more trade…
The Ugly: Realizing you’ve got nothing…
Poor Sinead, tragic life.
While listening to this album it sounded like you’re witnessing a fortune teller reading their own palm and realizing that it’s all for naught.
Did I like the album? Not particularly… but then that anthem kicked in, and I was propelled back to those lovely ‘90s days, when I was in uni and hanging with friends and life just seemed to never have a tomorrow…
Here’s to Sinead, hopefully, having enjoyed that which she did have!
3*

It was ok. I liked it but I didn't enjoy it as much as other stuff. Nothing Compares 2 U remains a masterpiece.

She's got a great voice, but not really my thing
Rated 8/10
O'Connor's voice is great, and I especially loved the more uptempo tracks on here (Emperor's New Clothes was a standout for me). I'd almost forgotten how powerful Nothing Compares 2 U was. A solid four. I still think Mandinka is my favorite track of hers (off the previous album).
Rated 4/10
The songs are slow and dull. And those that aren’t slow are just dull.
I was screaming inside for the final (title) track to end which in particular was excruciating.
The use of reverb was interesting - like a 1990s attempt at autotune; trying to disguise the fact that she is a bit flat at the top end.
And I’ve never liked Nothing Compares 2 U. The song or the 'cool' spelling.
Oh - and I don’t like her hair.
Credit to her for standing up for what she believed in though.
But only enough credit to push this up from a 1½ to a 2.

Intense. Musically varied, lyrically heavy.

"NARTING COMPARS. NARTING COMPARS. TO YOOOOOOOOOOOOUSE"
Hard to get beyond the "even bigger than a smash" hit here. *That* video. *Those* vocals. Obviously deeply troubled personally, but a glorious slice of Celtic folky-rocky business. 4 stars for the album, bonus star for calling out the Catholics for their hypocritical bullshit.
Rated 6/10
Pointing out the obvious first, she has an amazing voice. Overall the album has the one unbelievable track and the rest is pretty good but never comes close to matching it. I did enjoy it but at the same time I couldn’t see myself listening to it all the way through again.
Top Track - Cliche time, Nothing Compares 2 U
Rated 8/10
Soft sincere and pretty
Rated 4/10
Always liked Sinead O'Connor for her personality.
As for the album, gets off to a slow start, picks up with tracks 4 and 5, Nothing Compares 2 U is as hauntingly beautiful as ever... then the rest of the album goes downhill from there.

I was really disappointed by this. The only song I could get through was Nothing Compares 2 U, and it's not even her song
Rated 8/10
An underrated masterpiece that was overshadowed by a single event - that later proved she was a head of her time....
Rated 6/10
Such powerful lyrics. It's not the type of thing I'd go back and listen to much but I really respect it.
Rated 4/10
Not my cup of tea. I suppose it wasn't terrible. 1.5/5
Rated 8/10
sounded shockingly modern
