Yeah. Its elo. Beatles without any social awareness. I can definitely hear how most of the British bands co-opted a lot of these sounds too. Its good but too long and too overproduced, but that's kinda the point?
Rated 6/10
Classic 70s Pop, performed at a very high level, but not exciting at all. Kind of a solid listen but in this given context, it's more on the disappointing side.
Edit: after 90 albums, this is at least average in the given context

Blue Sky".

I don't why we bother rating these albums. None of us can say if an album is objectively good music or bad music. Ultimately, were just sharing how much an album matches up to our personal preferences. We're all just here screaming into the void how much we like or dislike something, hoping to find other people like us - people who like the same things as us; other members of our tribe that time or distance won't allow us to meet.
So, for anyone who likes this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ much, I'm out there

I'm gonna admit something that I feel like my family only knows: I really like ELO. I've listened to their biggest songs, some featured on this album, way more than plenty of times. I dunno what I like about them so much, I just think they're good, but I think I've only listened to one album on my own. Maybe it's because I love their biggest songs and I'm afraid that if I listen to any full album of theirs I'll realize their bad, that's something that's happened and heard opinions on other people of them finding a song from someone/some band and they look at their other stuff and it's bad. I just didn't want that to happen if I listen to ELO fully. Fortunately, listening to this 70 minute album, I did not feel that way. When the album starts with Turn To Stone, few songs late Sweet Talkin' Woman, and then the end of the third side is Mr. Blue Sky, one of my all time favorite songs, and listening to 60 more minutes of ELO, I can definitely say they aren't bad at all. So in conclusion, and as mentioned before, I really don't know why I like ELO so much, I just think they're a one of a kind band and Jeff Lynne is an underrated genius.

a little long but very little filler

The Good: I’ve got Electric Light!
The Bad: Missing Second Sight…
The Ugly: There go my amazing powers of observation…
Did you get that one? Just thought I’d throw that curve ball out there.
Did I enjoy the Out Of the Blue? Yes I did.
Is it the next best thing after sliced bread? No it’s not.
Will I listen to the album again? Hell yeah.
So what do you give an album like this, one where it at times feels like a chore to get through, yet when the last tune is done playing you kind of start missing out on all the fun that this album seems to embody.
I can’t in good conscience give this album a 5* rating… so the next best thing!

Iconic 70s sound. Most songs sound the same though. "Mr Blue Sky" is a classic.

This is a fun album to listen to, although I don't think I would ever play it again all the way through. Maybe if I was cleaning the house or cooking or something on the weekend when I could have something playing in the background that I don't really need to pay attention to. It's great for that. Some interesting parts here and there and the whole thing is pretty atmospheric. Although a little cheesy and dated sounding now, I can appreciate that this was a brand new kind of music in 1977 so there is something to be said for that. 3/5

If this album had been half the length it would be an easy 5. There's a lot to love here, and every track is passable at worst, but there's just so much of everything.

I’d forgotten how many great tunes were on this album 👍
Rated 4/10
It's as if there's too much going on with this. They're all undoubtedly talented musicians, sure, but it's overdone, making it sound obnoxious and pretentious. The production is also too smooth, and some of the songs sound kinda the same too. Maybe my IQ isn't large enough to comprehend it
I can see myself enjoying a couple of the songs, especially the slower stuff e.g. Starlight, but I can't do a full album, especially when it's over an hour long
Rated 4/10
Some of it was good. A lot of it was ok. Some of it was meh. Minus a star for being entirely too long.
Rated 10/10
This is a fantastic album which is perhaps just a little too long. I don't believe any album needs to be over an hour. The album is split into 4 parts. Part 1 is good. Part 2 is hit and miss with Jungle being a highlight but a couple of songs could have been cut here. Part 3 is fantastic and is concluded with Mr. Blue Sky which is one of my favourite songs of all time. I did always wonder why the song sort of changes into something else for the last minute or so and now I realise it's because it's part of a larger concept. Part 4 starts with the second best song on the album, Sweet is the Night, but then goes into a 5 minute whale noise instrumental which feels like the music they play at the end of a musical when everyone is leaving. This is followed by Birmingham Blues which is good but sounds suspiciously like Rockin All Over the World (released a couple of years prior) to me. The album ends with Wild West Hero which is a good song but I don't think it works too well as the closer for an album with this scope. I think they could have moved Sweet is the Night to part 2 (cut Believe Me Now) and got rid of part 4 and it would have been both shorter and better overall as well as being able to end on Mr. Blue Sky which has a great outro.
Despite the criticisms, I find it hard not to give this album a 5. You can feel the passion and genius that went into it. The production is fantastic and it just sounds good.

Essentially a 50-minute prologue and a 15-minute epilogue for "Mr Blue Sky."
Rated 10/10
Absolute classic album. Packed with all time great songs.
Rated 8/10
I know it's true to say that a lot (indeed most) bands are pretty recognisable whichever of their songs you are listening to. But I don't think there are any bands MORE recognisable than ELO.
Out Of The Blue is another so-called 'classic' album that I've never listened to in full before (even though my wife has it in her vinyl collection). Although it was hugely commercially and critically successful I think the reason it passed me (and a lot of people) by is its timing - being relased just at the start of Punk - when such bands and overblown albums were having the piss taken out of them relentlessly.
Nonetheless I loved it. It's a great listen and a 4+

I was on the fence with this one
Parts of the songs were so so good. Mr Blue Sky 10/10 🔥 Other parts were either too weird, or boring. This album was also really long. It was just a bit all over the place
I appreciate the music and talent, but I don't think its my cup of tea
