Härlig Boogie Woogie som är svår att stå still till. 4,5 av 5.

Pre Listen:
I've heard of Fats Domino before, but I'm struggling to remember any of his songs. I feel like I've heard at least one before, as I used to *really* be in to songs from this decade. Higher than usual expectations.
Notable Tracks:
Honey Chile | Poor, Poor Me - Tied for my least favorite songs. Boring instrumentation paired with unforgivingly repetitive vocals and lyrics.
The Fat Man's Hop - Favorite track. The instrumentals are the highlight of this album, and it's always a joy seeing them get a song to call their own.
Post Listen:
So I didn't recognize any of his songs, but his voice sounds so familiar. I still think I've heard him before, but I'm still just not sure.
Album was ok. I liked Domino's voice mostly, it was a little one-note, but it was a good note, so it's alright. The instrumental works were the highlight, as with many albums from this time. Classic rock and jazz fusions, when such fusions were just sort of the norm, have such a golden sound to them. What dragged a lot of the album down for me however was the lyrical work, it was painfully repetitive through the album. I'm not a fan of blues to begin with, so when you pair blues-styled lyrics with a one-note singer, and make the lyrics as repetitive as possible, it became old incredibly fast. 7 out of 12 of the songs on here blend together horribly.
I think I figured out why Domino can't please his woman. It's probably because all he does is missionary and doesn't see the joyous freedom beyond simple yet comforting repetition. 3/5

Giving a four to get another classic of American music. I don’t ever really wake up, thinking I want to listen to Fats Domino specifically, but I do think everyone should go to New Orleans and walk around and get a sense of where all this music came from.

It feels bland by today's standards

That's some very good early rock and roll. Not to the levels of a Little Richard or Chuck Berry, there's still too much blues and RnB, but it swings and has an indisputable charm.

Sometimes music from this era annoys me and sometimes it’s exactly what I feel like I need to be listening to. I feel like this album was a perfect way to start my day.

Легенда рнб 50х, але сказати про цю музику мені нема чого.

3/5. Finding this album was part of today’s journey. Not on streaming and on YouTube it has a different name and album cover, but the same release year and track-list so I’m like 95% sure it’s the correct thing.
Rating non-jazz albums from before the 60’s always feels somewhat difficult, because it feels somewhat unfair to think of them the same way you would an album from that decade or later. As back then albums usually just vehicles for the hit singles to be placed on, with other songs thrown on as a bonus, the album as a cohesive whole wasn’t really as much of a thing yet outside of some jazz records. That being said, this Fats Domino album is a pretty solid collection of songs. You get the big hit right out the gate with “Blueberry Hill” and there’s some other highlights too such as “Blue Monday” which has a great instrumental moment about halfway through. The biggest issue for me here is that a lot of the songs are samey, a lot of 12-bar-blues backing instrumentals with songs of love and heartbreak sung over them. Solid songs individually but when put all together it doesn’t make for the best album experience.

Not bad for nearly 70 years old. But limited in appeal for me. I'd not mind if somebody put this on to listen to, but I'm not seeking it out for a re-listen. And having just read the whole bullshit about which actual album is the correct one to review, I'm definitely not bothered to go back for a 2nd look.

Top : Blueberry Hill
Flop : The Fat Man's Hop

Not sure this counts as an album tbh, but some great tunes on here that still have a swing to them.

One of the worthy inclusions of its era. Despite the many versions of this album and similar ones available online, any iteration of Delta Blues hits would result in a worthwhile inclusion.

Records like this is what this project is all about, since there has never been a day when I would have said to myself "I think I'll listen to a Fats Domino record today." But this is a great record, with the jamming horn section and piano underlying his singing. Lots of fun for a hot summer afternoon.
