You know you're in for a treat when the first track (Not a song) is about Morrissey, and somehow Morrissey is the better person in the conversation compared to Adams. Pro-tip for artists. Never name drop a better artist in your music, especially when you're a shitty person who was outed as a predator. Making me defend Morrissey's honor, fuck you. Somehow Adams gets worse.
Additionally, this fucker changed San Antonio to "San Antone" for what I assume was a rhyme, and then he proceeds to rhyme it with "what".
But aside from all that, this album's fine. Some pretty solid cuts like Oh My Sweet Carolina, Bartering Lines, and Come Pick Me Up. All of this sounds very Jason Isbell, but Isbell is far better.
Outside of those solid cuts, the rest of the album is just OK at best. Still... making me defend Morrissey. Unforgivable.

I don’t even fw country or even country-esque music, but this was an absolute delight.
Rated 4/10
Eh, I don't like country sounds.
Rated 6/10
Separating the art from the artist and this album is just alright. It's an alt country album about heartbreak, which I've grown to enjoy a lot of alt country, but I just don't really connect with break-up albums.
Admitting my bias against the artist and it's hard to take some of these emotional songs seriously when I know he's a manipulative asshole. Even the anecdote about naming the album feels disingenuous to me. He deserves the heartbreak.
Rated 2/10
I tried. Everything says he's a singer/songwriter - but this is fucking country music in disguise. I can't do it.
Rated 6/10
Pretty nice album by a world class asshole.
Rated 8/10
Ryan Adams is a scumbag, but this album is good. Fourteen songs, two of which are top-tier and maybe six more that are well worthwhile, IMO.

Ok so I know this guy turned it to be a douche. But I also remember SO MUCH HYPE about him when he first came in the scene. Somehow I never took the time to check out any of his stuff.
Dude this is BORING. It must have been a slow year for music in 2000 if this debut got so much praise.
Also, his vocal style is pretentious AF. These lyrics aren’t as deep as he seems to want them to be. I was looking for originality and did not find it.

As others have mentioned, beautiful music by a reprehensible human. And, like other case, you're supposed to separate the art from the artists but....
5 stars for Phoebe Bridgers (and boygenius), and Mandy Moore, and everyone else this monster tried to destroy.
0 stars for him, 3 stars to split the difference

Boring
Rated 6/10
No está mal, entiendo que en USA tenga una gran aceptación pero para mí le falta "punch". Le doy 3 estrellas justas. To be young y Come pick me up.
Rated 2/10
Big meh for me. Just feels like he's pulling from obscure late 70s folk and not adding anything to it. There are plenty of bands that do what he does of that era that isn't pastiche

Abuser, pass.

Härliga backing vocals och bra munspel är det som räddar detta från ett sämre betyg.
