Like this a lot. Very nice discovery. Can feel the influence on a lot of stuff I love.

Wow, this sounds like the missing link between 70's Rock and Power Pop and all the Indie Rock that came afterwards. You can really hear how it was inspired by both Psych Rock and the later Punk and Power Pop. The songs are all fun listens even though they don't really stick yet. Probably gonna listen to this one more, it's a fun short and punchy album. The fact that the streaming version has 40 songs on it probably lowers the score a lot on here.

Pretty good, actually. I would listen again.

I liked this one! Good vibes

Unhinged but beautiful and charming. Enough poprock sensibilities to keep the audience engaged as they dive off the lyrical deep end.

Rated 6/10

Really nice bit of jangly post punk. The sound is pretty ahead of its time too. Let down a bit by songwriting.

A lighthearted missing link between punk and indie rock. Wonderful guitar sounds, clever lyrical concepts, psychedelic dynamics. Lovely!

The funny thing about this album is that if you told me it came out in 1967 I wouldn't have any reason not to believe it. It sounds a lot like any of the Brit pop from the 60s with maybe a little bit of new wave starting to creep in here and there.
I only listened to the original 10 songs, the 30 bonus tracks on Spotify seemed a little excessive (was there ever really a demand for those?). I was ready to move on after those first ten. This is one of the albums that isn't bad but I found myself thinking "surely there was another album that could have been included instead of this one?" 2.5/5 rounded up for the hilariously weird and bad album cover.

This album was very good. Felt like something that could have come out much more recently. Favorites were I Wanna Destroy You, Positive Vibrations, Queen of Eyes, and Underwater Moonlight.

Starts off well with “I Wanna Destroy You”. I was thinking “cool I found a new band I like”. Sadly didn’t maintain the level. “Old Pervert” is painful to listen to, and not because of the subject matter it’s just unpleasant musically. Luckily followed by Queen of Eyes which is a nice little jaunt.
Overall a very mixed bag.

Opens with "I Wanna Destroy You" that sounds like it's a cross between The Byrds and Cheap Trick and not a million miles away from Gigolo Aunts, and all I could think of was how good it would be for an odd throuple 2 camera BBC Two 90s sitcom starring two hideous guys and a blonde bombshell. It would run for 3 series, so around 18 episodes, and then a christmas special reunion episode years later when one of the guys has a huge tax bill to pay after his bid to transition to America failed spectacularly...

But I digress.

Pretty great stuff here. Psychedelic but also punky and kinda poppy? Such an eclectic mix, I can see why audiences weren't ready for it at the time but it really does hold up. I can very much see the influence this would've had on a lot of bands I dig.

An album that is on this list because it inspired other amazing artists is not a good sign going into to from my experience so far. I'm not sure what psychedelic rock entails, kinda get the vibe in positive vibrations. This is enjoyable, not bad, but also not outstanding, reminds me of late Beatles/George Harrison. A whole lot of blah. 2*
Only the stones remain: Rolling stones vibes, was that the intent?

HOLY FUCK, 40 SONGS?? 2.5 hrs of this? Yo, cut the crap, trim it to the good stuff. Oh, maybe it's all these bonus tracks that are unique to Spotify? The longer this went on, the less points I wanted to give it. But it doesn't suck completely, so 2*. I had to stop at track 22, this album kept giving me anxiety. Maybe I will finish it tomorrow. Got through the non-bonus tracks anyway.

This wasn't great, but not terrible either. I wasn't a big fan. 2/5

The Soft Boys sound like Sgt. Pepper era Beatles mixed with REM. The highs are high, but the lows are low too. There's a lot of psychadelic exploration going on on this album. Also, 40 songs is way too much for an album. By the end of the almost 2.5hr runtime I had really lost focus and was just wishing for it to be over.

Favourite songs: Wey Wey Hep Uh Hole, Positive Vibrations, I Wanna Destroy You, Queen of Eyes, There's Nobody Like You

Least favourite songs: Insanely Jealous of You, Old Pervert, He's a Reptile, Vegetable Man, Strange, Like a Real Smoothie, She Wears My Hair, Leave Me Alone

A mixed bag - some songs I really liked (my favorite was the instrumental "You Have To Go Sideways" ), but others that sounded quote dated; even more dated than the 1980 release date would suggest (Queen Of Eyes, for example).

Rated 6/10

This was pretty alright, but not too much past that. I think it's pretty obvious to tell this was ahead of the curve in a lot of ways, but that does mean a lot of sounds were done better by others later on. It's still good, don't get me wrong, but it left a lot to be desired at points.

Rated 6/10

Levy alkaa vahvasti, mutta keskivaiheilla iskee vähän vähemmän kiinnostava jakso. Sanotaan nyt 3/5, saattaa noustakin.

Rated 9/10

A mix of Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, Gang Of Four and Beach Boys!
