This is not exactly what I thought it would be having heard the Butthole Surfers that everyone knows. I remember these guys as almost like a joke band from when I was in school. I'd only ever heard some of the stuff they released in the mid 90s. Although there's a lot on this album that could literally be taken away, I mean like 70% of it is basically just weird sounds, the actual songs are pretty solid. Some of it is vaguely Primus-esque but without the amazing bass if that makes sense. Some of it is pretty straightforward 80s punk. You've got a song in Thai with an accordion in the background. But all together it kind of works. A weird band with an unfortunate name, I feel like I can let this one rest.

6 songs in and I don't know what to make of this. A weird mix of potty humor, expiramentation, heavy sludge riffs, and punk sensibilities. I'll give it a three because I don't know what to do with this.

Why? These guys can make music worth hearing, why would they make this? No thanks.

The terriblness and disturbing-ness of this album has been greatly exaggerated by the reviews on here. If you have any experience with any sort of grit in your music, you should be just fine listening to this, and the fact that Nirvana's albums have such high scores compared to this, kind of tells you that I think a lot of Nirvana's fans miss exactly what made that so special.
Anyway, speaking of grit, this album is so gripping audibly that it scratches every itch I would try and achieve with any music I would ever make. And the varying genres and styles basically making fun of various types of music keeps the album light hearted without sacrificing the musicality (most of the time), despite the downright evil sound of most of the music. Overall I think this pretty entertaining, and at a cool thirty-two minutes, what's not to like? Are most of the songs something I wouldn't put on casually? Absolutely, but I think as an album and an experience it's pretty great.

That was not an easy listen. Not dreadful, but again questioning quite how some of these made the list.

Very weird, but adored by a bunch of bands I love. Not my favourite, but pretty interesting

I really don't "get" the Butthole Surfers. Sometimes they have tracks or sections of tracks that are super interesting. Then it's just noise for noise sake at times, too. Maybe I need to listen to more, but this doesn't rise to the level of "really good" for me.

Iceman: "You can surf my butthole any time."
Maverick: "Bullshit! You can surf mine."

It's been quite a listen for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I've seen the band live a few times because I have a friendgroup that sees the Butthole Surfers as genius.
I really don't mind them, but the feeling of 'weird because weird' always keeps persisting.

This legitimately sounds like it comes from a seedy underground pre-internet version of the darkweb. They would fit right in playing a closing number at the Bang Bang Bar in Twin Peaks: The Return. I'd imagine the Venn diagram overlap of people who like gory B horror movies and LSD users is where you find most of your fans of The Butthole Surfers. This is only saved from being a 2 by "Human Cannonball" and its driving rhythm - which I genuinely like. Other than that it just sounds like some weird nerds that are into some dark shit getting revenge on the world by torturing people with their music.
