To me, it's the greatest in the Boss' discography. It is such a cohesive listen, with every track serving a clear function and each one offering a couple of standout moments. Some of his other records might have stronger singles, but this one is strongest as a whole.

Passionate and joyful. Enjoyed more than I thought.

the cover is so cute

This album captivated my disinterest. There should only be 2 springsteen albums here max. I will not sleep for this!

I always avoided Bruce Springsteen because of his image as an all-American every man. As a Canadian, I just had no interest; I'll stick with my Gord Downie and Neil Young, thank you very much! It wasn't until recently with his criticism against a certain orange buffoon and his criminal circus that I realized he was actually the kind of true American patriot that I could get behind.
Born to Run has great songwriting and playing all around, but the big production gets a bit tiring to me. Everything is just so loud and in your face (struggling not to make the obvious joke stereotyping Americans here), which does give the album an urgent feel as it builds to the title track, but it's not something I can see myself listening to frequently. I much prefer the stripped back sound on Nebraska, but overall, I still enjoyed Born to Run

The boss is boss la … as they say in Liverpool
Bombastic Americana rock . Relies a little too much on the emotion in Bruce’s voice on occasion- making the lyrics hard to understand; so only know they are important due to how hard Bruce sings them.

Never really been a Springsteen fan, always thought Bob Seger was better as far as Heartland Rock is concerned (and after listening to this album, it hasn't changed my mind). Bob Seger just has a grit that Springsteen is missing sometimes. I will always thank Manfred Mann for covering Blinded By the Light and making it an actual good song.
That said, I can't deny this is a great record. Some classics like Born to Run and Tenth-Avenue Freeze Out, and the rest are generally very good. Some of his singing can be hit and miss. He has a tendency to sometimes sound like he's swallowing his tongue when singing (She's the One, I'm looking at you).
Still a great record though.
Edit:
After listening to Nebraska and realizing I never came back to this album, I relistened to it again. I think it's still my favorite Springsteen album, it contains his best singing and I definitely know the hits. But I'm still gonna revise this down to a 3/5. I'm just not a fan of Springsteen.

It seems, from reading other reviews, that Born To Run is an album you either connect with or not, regardless of how you feel about Springsteen as a person.
I'm in the camp that appreciates Bruce Springsteen more for his personality than his music. Failure to connect. I'm not his audience.

I don't like Springsteen - I am not looking forward to this.
Halfway through, it's very Springsteen. Like, paint by numbers, exactly what you'd think. It's pretty boring, but it does tend to get the toes tapping on occasion.
Don’t like it. Springsteen sucks.

I liked this more than I expected. I’ve never really cared for what I’d heard from Springsteen but I’d also not listened to a full album. There’s some really good stuff on here. His voice is still not my favorite but it didn’t entirely hinder my enjoyment of this album.

I feel like I *should* like Springsteen but I don't, really. 2.375

Alright, here we have the first album from The Boss to achieve mainstream success. I gather that it was a rather lengthy process to perfect his sound during the recording sessions. Hell, six months were spent working on just the title track. Suffice it to say, all that hard work paid off in dividends.
Born to Run contains some high-caliber piano-driven rock tunes, where Bruce was able to capture the essence of working class people trying to find their escape. Credit is due to him and the E Street Band for crafting and producing some true bangers on this album, and not just the singles. Even deep cuts like “Backstreets”, “She’s the One” and the 9-minute closer “Jungleland” prove to be exceptionally constructed with a sound that’s timeless.
If you haven’t already, give Born to Run a chance. I get not everyone’s fond of Springsteen’s music, but if there was at least one that deserves its place on this list, it would be this one.

I know many find him iconic but I’ve never been able to get into Bruce. I think it’s the singing… the way he sings, closer to talking than melodic, makes many of his songs sound similar.
I hear some good piano, the themes of the sings are sometimes interesting lyrically. I don’t think it is BAD, just not hearing the masterpiece that many others do.

Bruce Springsteen returns with Born To Run and for me its one of those albums that mostly shines throughout the back half. The songs on the front half were all decent but a bit too similar sounding to each other but the back half did have some genuinely beautiful sounding moments and the songs there felt like they had their own identity and were not all too similar to each other. I think this album is better than Darkness On The Edge Of Town since i feel like i can remember the back half songs here better than all of the songs on that album. This album is quite good
Best Song: Meeting Across the River
Worst Song: Backstreets
Rated 10/10
Just a great album, perfect length, bookended by absolute killer songs in "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland" and it feels like the whole album tells a story. Sure it's not an impeccable production, but its a history alerting tour de force by this debuting classic-era E Street Band line-up. Timeless, and AMAZING live.
Rated 6/10
Muy interesante con conaciones como "Thunder Road", "Born to run" o "She's the one". Mucho piano para lo que uno se imagina de un album de rock.
Rated 2/10
Springsteen is basically the antithesis to what I want out of music. "Heartland rock" sums up the sound perfectly and why I'm not a fan. I can't stand the heartland of this country.
