An amazing set done by the Allman Brothers Band at the height of their power. Plenty of blues licks, southern dance jams with a quality that's pretty much unparalleled.
"Stormy Monday" is a beautiful slow burner of a blues track, "You Don't Love Me" is a jam masterpiece with a solo that transcends blues and enters funk, and even metal territory, and how can we forget the monolithic, epic, and downright just plain huge, Whipping Post.
I'm not a fan of live albums, or double album wank fests, but this here is basically a tutorial on how to wank your life out on a double platter and still leave someone like me amused. Props to the band, and especially Duane, who leaves me captivated with every listen.

This was a southern, bluesy style live rock album. The songs are mostly instrumental and there's lots of improvised jamming. It wasn't super meandering, I thought it was nice to listen to. My favorite song (and the one with the jamming I enjoyed the most) was "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed".

I do not find most live albums appealing. This is not an exception.

Classic "blues rock" records tend to age poorly, but this one still sound great. The longer cuts are the best.

i love long smooth instrumentals

Great music, but super long.

another really well done live album. that said, i dont really enjoy the jam band thing when not actually listening live. it sounds like it wouldve been a lot of fun though

A classic, no doubt. Perhaps one of the best Live albums ever made. Blues lends itself to being a great springboard for jamming out and it is used as such here as well. I really like anything they do and this is their magnus opus. Everything just comes together here to be great. My favorites are the side long jams where they just go ham and do everything. Explaining why you enjoy an album is harder than explaining why you don't like something so that's all I can say haha.

Favorite track(s): Statesboro Blues, Stormy Monday, You Don't Love Me, Hot 'Lanta, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Whipping Post
This is what people think Lynyrd Skynyrd sounds like. Maybe it was for the best that Duane wasn't around to see them.

ok - not sure why it is considered so great...

Riktigt bra liveskiva med långa partier av solon. Flera långa låtar.

Masterful Soul Rock album. Despite my aversion for live albums in the most part, the quality of the immaculate guitar work cannot be understated and makes the album a dynamic and enjoyable listen despite the extended runtime. While this is the magnus opus of their discography, I still find it somewhat rare that 'Eat a Peach' was not included in the list.

Well, I had something snarky all teed up when I saw this pop up today. The thing, though, is that it’s pretty excellent. It’s a pretty wonderful mix of blues and rock, and even though I’m not generally a huge fan of jam bands, this one hits just right. 3.5 stars, but I’ll tip it to 4 stars because I don’t detect any overt country music influences, and the guitar work is absolutely exceptional.

If you don't like this record, not only do you not like great music, you might just not like sound at all. People say, well, it's not going anywhere, but the truth is, The Allman Brothers aren't a jam band - they're a group that goes straight to the heart w/ southern riffs, uplift, & drive, i.e., they're not going anywhere b/c they're still got places to go & they dig taking their time. It is what it is, which is not only one of the two greatest live records of all time (Live/Dead is right there w/ it), but a joyful piece of American history. & if you get at all bored w/ the guitaring, which you shouldn't, get down w/ the drumming since Jai Johanny Johanson is the unsung hero of the thing. +, maybe you should just take it easy w/ the whole going places thing. Chill.

You know how I feel about super long songs. And live albums. Obviously super talented, but not my vibe x10

Long form and meandering. Was ok in the background I guess.

Well, this is awkward. I'm supposed to hate live albums AND blues album. But this is actually good??
First of, the audience shuts its collective mouth. You hear them between songs, of course, and there are a few whistles here and there, but that's it, and it never detracts from the music. And the recording is of high quality, there's barely any echo. You easily forget it's live.
As for the blues, well, it's blues-rock, so it MOVES. Apart from the slow-ass third track, which bored me, the rest is very energetic. And the improv aspect means you never know where the song is going, but it also doesn't feel meandering, it's going somewhere. And boy, is it a journey, especially starting with the fourth track, "You don't love me". What a spectacular demonstration of sheer talent. "Hot 'Lanta" is also pretty phenomenal.
All around, this was surprisingly fun. Some of the best guitar play I've ever heard. I can't imagine how incredible seeing those guys live must have been.

Oh my lord besties hurrryyyyyy up. I wanna go to bed. It's sleepy time. Nut up or shut up you know what I'm saying.
Should live albums be on the list? Well that's not up to me to decide, but honestly they could do with some editing. Music is emotion and movement, and I felt little and twas too slow for my liking. If I were at this concert, I'd be checking my watch, making sure I had enough time left on the car park. Perhaps wondering when someone might give us a lyric.
It's not awful, but it's not for me x

This is like a vegetarian eating a prime steak, perfectly cooked by a famous French chef. No matter how good it is it will never be properly appreciated. Similarly, I am not a fan of the blues or live albums so I cannot do a review of this one justice.
Rated 8/10
Crazy good jams in the second half, where the jazziness superposes the bluesiness.
"In the memory of Elizabeth Reed" brings Latin influences, "Whipping Post" is an extraordinary 23-minute journey. Guitar skills are off the scale, as well as the telepathic band chemistry. Also, two drum sets? Nice!
Problem is, I'm not sold on the first half. The ordinary blues numbers are neat, but nothing more. And "You Don't Love Me" has a cool riff, but the soloing here overstays its welcome.
All in all, still very cool. Would recommend, and will dig into the discography of these guys.
