I suppose we're having a "I already listened to this" sort of week, although unlike ABBA, this one stays in the same place it started for me. It is certainly Alice Cooper as a band's best album, but the album suffers from forgettable tracks all throughout, and while some of the most iconic from the band's career spawn from here, it really suffers from those boring tracks. That being said, I love when this album ditches the rock n roll sensibilities and goes for a more theatrical approach, it was what Alice Cooper (the person) was born to do, and fits the creepy style far more in my eyes than boring Who-like guitar solos. I do sound like I hate this album, but there is plenty to like: the lyrics still generally hold up, and the whole album has this feeling to it like it was so immaculately planned that there are no flaws to see. It feels all born with a purpose of being on this record, which is interesting considering Elected I believe was a couple years old at this point. A good album, but Alice Cooper's solo work was always his best (and worst) material, and this only sits somewhere in the middle of it all. Scraping by with its score here.

Boring.

Great. A very good album. I leked to listen to it

Some cool clasic rock right here. Bass work is pretty impressive on Billion Dollar Babies. No More Mr. Nice Guy is a boomer anthem. do i really want to relisten to alice cooper sing about fucking corpses? I guess not really.

Really not my vibe for some reason cause it should be 2/5
It’s fine? Just kinda lost interest

This sucks so much. 1.7
Rated 8/10
Much more light and shade than I would have expected from their more famous songs, with ballads and bluesy numbers mixed through the classic rock staples and only a couple of schlocky pantomime horror tracks. Not quite a five star album, for me, but a solid 4!
Rated 8/10

(Really) better than expected.

Alice Cooper is the king of shock rock!! It is very evident by some of the topics touched on in this album. Some examples include:
Unfinished Sweet - a song about dental surgery. Alice uses dental drill sounds and screaming/moaning noises to really drive home the cringe factor!
Sick Things - his delivery in this song is so creepy, which is the point!
I Love The Dead - a song about necrophelia, which in and of itself is shocking! The fact that it is almost a love ballad/porno groove adds to the shock factor.
Another surprising song was Mary Ann, when it is just him and a piano.
Overall a great album! Alice Cooper was a revolutionary artist, and paved the way for the likes of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson.
Favourite songs: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Elected, Billion Dollar Babies
Least favourite song: Sick Things

I like it, it's nowhere near as heavy as I thought it would be at all, but it's still got some fantastic guitars in there, and it's also quite melodic. I'll certainly check out some more Alice Cooper beyond this (and the other big hitters I know).

The album is rock at its core but it sure can't help from bursting into musical theatre grandeur along the way. Each track has a boisterous pop affect that contrasts against the ghoulish nature of the performances and the scandalous nature of the lyrics.
And speaking of the lyrical content, now I know why Alice Cooper's work was coined as shock rock. The lyrics blast right through taboos such as sexual assault ("Raped and Freezin'"), blow-up dolls ("Billion Dollar Babies"), and necrophilia ("I Love the Dead"), like they're just small talk. I can see the roots of groups like Gwar in these songs, for sure.

Enjoyed this one more than I expected, maybe my pre conceptions of Alice Cooper were wrong. But this is a good rock album.

Generally not a big fan of Alice Cooper but I must say this album is produced quite well. Bob Ezrin gives it that big layered sound he is known for and I appreciate the effort that went into the details. Bonus points for having both Donovan and Marc Bolan on it.
Rated 8/10
I always figured Cooper was hard rock, so I was surprised to hear elements of glam (e.g., the opener Hello Hooray) and even prog (e.g., parts of Unfinished Sweet). It definitely had a somewhat dated sound, but it was pretty good overall. I'll give it a 4 because I have a tough time giving a 5 to an album that has an anthemic song about necrophilia. Oh, and the song "Raped and Freezin'" - um, Alice Cooper, are you ok? Favorite tracks: Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Kind of boring hard rock. Doesn’t do much for me unfortunately.
