This is defacto what my sort of thing isn't

Paul Revere & The Raiders have their own unique sound and space among mid-1960s rock bands, even if I wouldn't count them as a top tier act. There's elements of their sound which are ahead of their time and you can hear in groups that came later.

The real monkees

Starts with the best song on the album and then it's pot luck what style you'll get. Lots of it is forgettable. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

First track is pretty good, but then the album kind of disappears for me. Most of it sounds like Beatles-lite, and considering I don't particularly like the Beatles, that's not exactly a winning formula. If they leaned more into the folk side of things I think I'd be on board. “Melody for an Unknown Girl” is easily my favorite track, probably because it's mostly instrumental and doesn't sound much like anything else on the album. Two stars for those two songs, nothing for the rest. 2/5.

Nothing to malign about it, although not too much to get excited about either. It's just alright.

Its alright, not sure I really needed to hear the whole album.

Kicks is a great tune, but it quickly becomes derivative of other, better 60s era bands after that.

we took a time machine back to 1966, grabbed some random white men off the street, shoved some instruments into their hands, and told them to record a rock album. this is what they made ❤️

I've been putting off listening to this all day as I've been in a good mood and was fully anticipating an abomination from the murkiest trenches of the 60s for whatever reason. That, it isn't, but the twangy vocals aren't a favourite of mine, and whilst this is solidly performed, not much of the musicianship really leapt out at me. "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" is a bit of a banger though.

My goodness, that was boring. The '60s saw many musical breakthroughs and upheavals. Great music was created that continues to have an impact today and still holds up. This album is a good example of how things could have been different—in this case, ordinary and boring. 3/5

Man, I really did not want to listen to this. I don’t like this stuff. The first song sounds exactly like what I expected - a Beatles wanna-be clone. But then it got a bit interesting and toe-tappy. It was like every other song was pretty good. So I don’t know what to make of it. The last song was garbage, but there were some good songs on here, so I’ll give it a 3. Probably should be 2.5

Starts off really strong with Kicks, but basically devolves into bog standard psych rock.
Not bad, but not blowing me away.

Most of this was fun 1960s pop, apart from Melody for an Unknown Girl, which is unadulterated cheese.

Ugh. So forgetable...

I mean this in the nicest possible way: PRR are a second rate 60s beat band. i.e. if you love mid 60s pop/rock, and you're looking to dive a bit deeper than the obvious names, this is a great place to start. "Kick" and "Stepping Stone" are truly great songs, and the rest of the record definitely scratches the itch for soft psych garage rock. But if you're a casual listener, this album will probably sound like mostly generic filler, and you wouldn't totally be wrong.

This actually goes kinda hard sometimes. That Volk bass playing/sound is really something else. Some of the guitar and keyboard playing is cool too. Kind of a witchy twist on the psychedelic rock sound of the time. The songs are of inconsistent quality though and I dislike generally creepy patronizing vocal tone though.

I love how this is so cheesy even Quentin Tarantino had to make fun of it
