Great voice, very talented. One decent song on the album. Will not be going into my collection.
Rated 8/10
Short, sweet, and goddamned good music.
Dolly's straightforward storytelling style is very impactful to me, and while listening to this album (Coat of Many Colors, in particular), I was able to put a name to a feeling I have had for a very long time.

Pretty nice country music.

Goddamn. I knew I would enjoy this; I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've ever heard from Dolly's classic period. But I didn't expect to love this album as much as I did. Just top-notch all the way around. Incredible songwriting, arrangements, performances, etc. It's so much more than just the fantastic title track. Probably the most unexpected 5 stars I've awarded so far, but very happy to.

Story-telling country songs across a range of genres/moods, all twangy and made with high-polish Nashville production, from poignant folk to pop bluegrass to piano ballads to high energy country rock. Her vocals in particular are the highlight with memorable phrasing, pauses, and overall a really charismatic delivery. The soaring lap steel soars the close harmonies are really affecting in the way they always are.

Dolly’s gotten a lot of love in recent years, and she’s very likable and does a lot of good things.
She also works HARD and is a fantastic song writer and performer. This album puts that on display.

Didn't know any of these songs before this, but come on. Dolly is an american institution. She is amazing. Five stars all day every day.

I'm not a country fan, but I can appreciate how good this album is. I never listened closely to her singing in the past - really just knew the hits like 9 to 5 - she has so much more emotion in her singing than I realized. In the past, I probably would have characterized her voice as cheesy but on this album her singing is beautiful. Beyond that, the band is on point, and the music and lyrics are stirring. I can't give it a 5 because it's still mostly straightforward country (with a few exceptions - Early Morning Breeze is more folk than country. The Way I See You is kind of schmaltzy). That said, it's clearly a great album. Favorite tracks: Coat of Many Colors (by far my favorite), My Blue Tears, If I Lose My Mind, She Never Met a Man (She Didn't Like), Early Morning Breeze.

The album starts off quite strong, but plateaus off to fair generic country & western.
My mum loves Dolly Parton and specifically the opening track, which is a great song, that's enough to inflate my rating.
Rated 6/10
Country music wouldn’t exactly be my choice, but at least this is better than the garbage pop country we have to live with now. And Dolly Parton is a damn treasure of humanity for sure, I'm just not someone who would ever listen to her music. But I listened to this. That's really about all I can say about it. I guess I'll rate it a 2.5/5 because I can see why people like it and it was short and sweet.

I by no means am a country fan, so I can't say for sure whether or not this is good by country standards. Compared to other music in general, it's okay. Dolly definitely put her heart and soul into every one of these songs, and that's something that can't be said for many country artists. I guess what I'm saying is that she tried at the very least.
Rated 10/10
Great ACTUAL country with relatable lyrics that don't just read like parody. This is the real deal. Dolly's voice here is incredible too, alternating between gorgeous and deeply heartfelt.
Rated 8/10
Classic country....
Rated 8/10
a genuinely charming album. dolly oozes sincerity throughout

Dolly Parton is a saint! Marvel in her technicolour dream coat.
Rated 4/10
I am not a fan of country music at all, even though it seems to be the thing for 2024.
That said this album was an easy and nice listen with some good songs on it. the songs are country with a hint of pop, fun and engaging. I doubt ill listen to it again but I enjoyed.
Favourite song: Travelling man and the way I see you.
Least favourite: There is not a bad song on the album.
Album artwork: Not one to hang up on the wall at home

Okay album. Not very much my taste, but I can see why it's a classic,
Rated 8/10
Honestly, i was just shocked to see just how good Coat Of Many Colors really was since i wasn't expecting so much out of it. Dolly had a great voice throughout and she really showed that she put a large amount of effort and passion into her vocals. The music was handled really well for the most part too and the album cut a pace that was just right. It was long enough for the songs to really sink in but still quick enough for it not to feel tedious. My one issue with the album is some of the timing of certain aspects of certain tracks with examples being Early Morning Breeze ending far too early or Here I Am adding it's instruments too early. Other than that though, this is a great album that really made me know that there was more to Dolly than i had once thought.
