This sort of feels like the evil version of Sparks. I mean, you got high register, goofy songs that take some getting used to, especially when it comes to this album. However, the Residents are not here to make pop masterpieces, but rather avant garde art that can be hard to stomach for the average person. Me liking this album does not mean those who don't are dumb, because of course not, this is just straight weird. I'm just intrigued and pulled in by the shock of it all, so when you get something that actually rocks, it really does rock. If anything I'd say the amount of songs makes it repetitive to listen to, not so much strange, although that is certainly there. I don't know man, I just think this is a neat collection of the anti-mainstream and macabre, and it scratches some itches doing so.

This reminds me of the weirder parts from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, and they focused on expanding the very weird parts. I would love to experience this live on some shrooms tbh

Definitely interesting. Purposefully off-putting. Enough interest that I'm glad I listened, will not listen again.

This is something... I'm not sure what, but it's something. Not sure we can call it music... These guys remind me a bit of Primus. Not in musical style, but the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously, and the ability to play instruments is low on their priority list.

The singer, if that's what we can call him, sounds like a cross between Morphle (from the kids tv program of the same name) and Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo (from South Park). Let's just say that neither of these characters should be given a record contract. I guess it's fitting seeing as Mr Hankey is a literal piece of shit, and this music is shit. But one thing I started to understand as I listened to this album is its less about the "music" with these guys, and more about the experience. Their stage attire (eyeball masks with top hats), their nonsensical lyrics... It's all an experience. These guys are not meant to be taken seriously. To me they fall in the same experimental category as Einsturzende Neubauten. Here is an excerpt of their odd lyrics:

An ether eating Eskimo
Would gag upon your sight
Convulsed into oblivion
From laughter or from fright

Overall, very odd. I'll never seek this out again. Instruments made noises on this record that they should never make. I don't know who listens to this regularly, but it was interesting enough to listen to once, but that's enough for me.

Favourite songs: Lizard Lady? I guess?

Least favourite songs: this whole fucked up album, but Birthday Boy most of all.

Man what goofy album. i hear the seeds of a lot of Primus's work in here. Some songs are fun and quirky, others are just flat out atonal and out in outer space. I have no idea what to do with this album, so i will give it a 3.

No thanks.

Listen 1: What in all that is holy have I just listened to?

Listen 2: Hey, those are some pretty neat melodies behind that overdubbed voice

Listen 3: Why am I liking this? What is wrong with me? Let's see if that preserved and extended version has some bonus material that might be interesting

Listen 4: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Rated 4/10

I want to say I like it more than I did, some interesting moments though

Rated 5/10

Gotta revisit this one some time

Rated 10/10

I think I like The Residents but I'm not sure I'm cool enough to like The Residents.

Rated 4/10

I think I respect this on some level, but I certainly don't enjoy listening to it.
