This is about as mid as I remember them being at the time. Not terrible, but also not essential listening in any way. I think it was Amy Winehouse who killed the Zutons, when she did a much better version of their best song!

Paris 1919John Cale

Rated 4/10

I don't really get the appeal of this one. From what I know of John Cale I thought this would be way more experimental. But this was just mid the whole way through, apart from Analucia, which I found to be offensively bad. Maybe I'm missing something here, context-wise.

This is another formative album for me, impossible to rate subjectively! These guys were the height of coolness when I was a teenager, and this is them at their best. Not a bad song on here, and there's even one about Whiskey Dick. Don't think I've ever heard another band address that phenomenon, so it's got that going for it.

Basically a perfect album in my opinion - one of my all time favourites. I probably listen to this at least once a month. I talk a lot in these reviews about albums that haven't aged well, but this one truly has. It could have come out yesterday. I always thought that this album and Kid A sounded like music from the future, and I still feel like that.

Absolutely love this album, although it took me a while to come around to as a teenager. Now I listen to it often when working, it's great for both focusing and daydreaming. Looking at it in context, there was really nothing else like this at the time, and it had a huge influence on all electronic music that came after it. Add to that all the weird and interesting lore around Apex Twin building his own synths and other equipment, and you have a truly legendary and essential album.

I find some people struggle with electronic music in general, so expect the reviews for this to be pretty polarised. If you find it sounds repetitive, I recommend taking your focus away from the repeating elements (usually the drums/beats) and focus instead on the elements that are added and subtracted throughout the songs. Then just let your mind drift :)

InfectedThe The

Rated 2/10

Some interesting sounds, but overall a bit boring, and nowhere near as good as Soul Mining. I think we could have done with just one The The album in the book!

Enjoyed this one more than I expected, having only known Willie Nelson for his political songs and the "Roll me up and smoke me" one. Had no idea he is actually a serious musician too, and a good one at that! Will definitely be coming back to this.

This is a great album, I do find the quality dips a bit in the second half though. The first three songs are absolute bangers. Overall, not as good as Violator, which is near perfect in my opinion.

This is a good album overall, and I like Alison Goldfrapp's voice. However after two listens, the only songdms which stuck with me we're Happiness and A&E, both of which I knew already.

TechniqueNew Order

Rated 8/10

I never really clicked with this album fully before, but I see the significance of it now. It was very forward thinking, and you can hear the transition of 80s electronic sounds to 90s dance sounds. I like a lot of New Order songs, but don't really connect with them fully. I blame Bernard Sumner's very average singing! 7/10

I've been listening to this one since it came out, glad to see so many people are enjoying discovering it through this generator! I think Kiwanuka is super talented, and the songwriting and playing on this are great. However there's something about the production (I think maybe the mixing) that has always bothered me. I find it a bit cold or something, which makes it harder for me to connect emotionally to it. It does sound a lot better on vihyl though I think - maybe that's what they were going for.

There's a few good songs on here, especially Vampire Blues, Revolution Blues, and For the Turnstiles. Overall though, I don't think it compares to After the Gold Rush or Harvest, or even Rust Never Sleeps. It's interesting that he thought this was his escape from the "middle of the road". I think this album is way more MOR than the other two!

Don't really get Alice Cooper. I think you had to be there at the time, because this is very boring for something that is supposed to be "shocking". Maybe his live shows were great or something. Also I'm not really sure what the point of Raped & Freezing is...was there a joke in there or something? Who was the victim?

Really like this one - another band I've heard of but never listened to. It's pretty put there for punk at the time, I can see why they managed to avoid being pigeon-holed. I can hear their influence on both REM and Fugazi pretty clearly, but also more modern bands like black midi. Will definitely be getting a copy of this one for myself, can see it growing on me even more. The only criticism I'd have is that the lyrics are a bit impenetrable - I don't really have much of an idea what these songs are about after 2 listens.

Quite enjoyed a lot of this, and can see myself returning to it if I ever want to listen to some bluegrass. I found it especially interesting how some of these sound like Irish trad music. But it took two sittings to get through...lawd that is a lot of bluegrass! 7/10

No idea why this is on the list. It's the worst LCD album by miles, and was arguably not required at all by humanity. Tonite is a pretty good song though I guess

I hadn't listened to this one in full before, but my daughter is a Swiftie so I knew a lot of the songs via osmosis. It's not bad, bit of a mixed bag. Yes some songs are a bit too melodramatic and some melodies are a bit repetitive, but her songwriting in general has definitely improved. I prefer the songs more obviously written about other characters (like the one with Haim). It's way too long though - they could have trimmed like 10-15 mins easily.

I had never listened to Anthrax before at all, but enjoyed this much more than I expected. They kinda sound like a love child of Metallica and Iron Maiden. The riffs and drumming are great, really intense and catchy. The only negatives I would have really are that the vocals are a bit hard to understand in places, and the lyrics I did catch are lacking a bit of depth. They sound a bit immature compared to say Metallica on Master of Puppets, which tackled a lot of similar themes in a more nuaced way. Still an enjoyable listen, but I wouldn't be rushing to check more of their albums out, considering this is meant to be their peak.

Have to say, I enjoyed this one a lot more than the other two Elvis albums I've got so far, despite only knowing one song previously. It's really well produced and there were a few songs that I really enjoyed. Not sure if I'd go back to it again though. I'd say at this point Elvis was probably seen to be "past it", but this shows he still had some fuel in the tank!

Love this one! My favourite Kraftwerk album, and the first one I heard from them. Not only a groundbreaking electronic album, but a nice love letter to Europe as well. Reminds me of some great times I had interrailing in my youth - Europe really did feel endless.
