If you don’t care about singing in tune I would rather you talk sing or yell sing (not growl please) than sing off key to the point of making me wince.
Also these lyrics were not clever.

Such an outstanding of a singer-songwriter whose lyrics perfectly express universal emotions, but at the same time didn’t ignore rhythm and musicality. Sublime.

Ok! I’ve now listened to my third of the three Björk albums on this list. Hallelujah. Honestly they aren’t so different from each other to merit that many. There are so many artists in the world, you don’t need three from Björk to understand she makes avant-garde music. I would omit this one. It’s probably a 1.5 star album for me although I’ll round up to two for the song Who Is It.

I like the simplicity. There is some good guitar work. Unfortunately some of the songs are a bit too snoozy/wander into lounge territory. I’m not a big country fan but this wasn’t bad.

I was feeling dismayed by this album, and then Editions of You came on. Great song!
Unfortunately that and the last two were the only ones I enjoyed.
2.5 stars.

I’m pretty conflicted on this singer-songwriter genre. I often find it pretentious. But this album has good movement to it. Enjoyable.

Ugggghhh when you can read the lyrics, you find that they are actually interesting. But they are impossible to understand when they are being growled at you! My least favorite vocal style. What a waste of good content.
I will give credit to the instrumentalists, because when I manage to block out the vocals I hear some pretty good stuff going on back there.

It’s going to go into the two star category of: I understand the value of this, I just get no pleasure from listening to it.

You, digging the dub step vibe. Didn’t expect that from the album cover. Horner it could use some more oomph. Doesn’t reach ska levels, and when more power was attention the vocals went off tune. Good attempt but unfortunately a miss.

I really enjoyed the instrumentals on this album. The vocals didn’t always add and sometimes took away from the vibe. I found the male singer’s deep voice was more aligned with the mood on his tracks. I wanted to like it, because it started strong, but definitely was ready for it to be over before the end.

If this voice doesn’t give you the feels, then I’m not sure that you have a soul.

The good stuff is really very good, but there are some clunkers on here that border on lounge music or the more cutesy Beatles songs. Still, probably my favorite of the (too many) Blur albums on this list. 3.5 that I may round to four stars, since I rounded down on another one of theirs.

Not my favorite by these guys, but they were just starting out. For my personal taste it’s probably a 2.5 but I can happily round up to three stars for the song “My Generation” and for how good they sounded when rock was still in its early stages.

The out of tune singing is really hard to overlook. I do appreciate that they tried to mix things up stylistically across the album (although within each song there is often a TON of repetition) but some of these notes have me wincing.

It’s really not great. But this project has really worn me down this week with some stuff I really didn’t enjoy. So this, while weak, is going to get three stars just for not making me actively angry that I have to listen to it.
In reality it is probably 2.5 at best. They could use a new vocalist. And I get that bands have signature sounds but man, these songs are all VERY similar.

I’m sorry this is just way too repetitive. Both within songs (Three feels like it goes on forever) and across songs. Also, Robert Smith has a gorgeous voice so it feels like a waste that this album is mostly instrumental. I appreciate the consistency in mood, but musically I was very bored.

Always good lyrics. The beats didn’t always excite me. Started out really disliking the droning effect in the first song. Still among the great artists, I’m just comparing this album against their others on this list. 3.5 stars…

Musically it doesn’t do anything for me, but there are some interesting lyrics on this. I’m no expert on rap, but there’s definitely some that I enjoy more than this one.

This is objectively bad, come on. A very average voice over drums and electronic keyboards. All of the songs very similar to each other, likely because the singer has no range.
