After Lonesome, On'ry and Mean, Outlaw country was in full swing thanks to Willie Nelson, so naturally Waylon Jennings rode that wave into Honky Tonk Heroes.

But Honky Tonk Heroes is far from an empty chart placement. This one is a great batch of songs unified with a post-hangover melancholic feel. Although Jennings didn't write the songs, they sure feel like he did, and he sings them in accordance. It's firmly country, but I think it's also worth mentioning how it has a rocking sound at moments, evident in the electric guitar in the first song and on Slow Rollin' Low, a bonus track. It also has a tinge of singer-songwriter to it.

Po jednej nutce i od razu wiem, że mój cyrk odjechał i zostawił mnie w country-hajmoniko landzie na pastwę losu. Nie ma takiej siły, która sprawiłaby że się polubimy. Nigdy.

Reminded me of him.

Pre Listen:
Never heard of this group, not the biggest fan of the Honky Tonk style though, personally. Album cover looks fun, bet the vibes in that moment were immaculate. Expecting country music that sounds alright, but somewhat generic.

Notable Tracks:
Ain't No God in Mexico - Least favorite song. Lots of abruptness to this one, weird abrupt lyrics, weird abrupt changes in tempo, and a weird abrupt end. Just weird.

Post Listen:
Expectations were dead on. Classic Country.

Another one of these albums that isn't bad but just isn't really all that special. Sounds good, probably really good for Country lovers, but I'm just not that huge on the genre. I really liked the Bass player, he had some neat moments in some of the songs, otherwise played consistently. Main vocalist felt like a regional Johnny Cash, good voice on him. Other than the odd mentioned song, nothing stuck out as bad, but again, nothing really hooked me all that much. Album had a good length, at least.

Woulda had a beer with you Waylon. Idk what all we'd have in common, but you got a decent band with ya, and that's reason enough. 3/5

Kinda like a warm blanket.

Surprisingly enjoyed this one. The incorporation of folk and rock made it better for sure. Points lost for Waylon only helping to write one song on this album.

a bit boring at times but enjoyable

Honky tonk.

Rated 10/10

Absolutely loved it. outlaw country at its finest.

Rated 4/10

Am I crazy or do all the songs fade out just when they start to get good? Are we allergic to a bit of jamming?

Rated 4/10

Не знаю що сказати. Не найгірше хонкі-тонк кантрі, але повертатись до цього альбому я точно не буду. 2.5

Rated 8/10

Good old down and out and plain and simple, roadworn, lovelorn, country and western.

Rated 7/10

This made me want to be wandering an open field in the afternoon half drunk in the summer so bad.

0/5... arrrrggghhhhh 1/5

Wow, for God's sake, more country music?!?!?!
Damn, no way! I'd rather die than have to listen to this (˶˃𐃷˂˶)

Rated 4/10

Mid level country album.

Rated 8/10

Good old style country, but Waylon Jennings seem to have a lot more rock influences than you'd expect.

🥱🤠🤷‍♂️

Rated 6/10

Love Country (unless its Dixie Chicks), even more do I love Country Rock/Folk. This is classic Country and although I had high hopes, while it was nice to listen to it had no wow factor.

Rated 6/10

Country isn't really my thing. But every now and then, you find some gems in that genre that I really enjoy. That's how I felt about this album. I probably won't listen to it again, but it was fun for this one time. 3/5

I like the simplicity. There is some good guitar work. Unfortunately some of the songs are a bit too snoozy/wander into lounge territory. I’m not a big country fan but this wasn’t bad.
