Very good album. I prefer "Making Movies", "Communiqué", and, even more so, "Lover Over Gold" (and also "Brothers in Arms", which happens to be also included in this 1001 album list). The guitar playing is fantastic. Mark Knopfler is a great guitarrist with a unique style.

Even if the title track may have been overplayed, I still enjoy it very much whenever I listen to it.

Some other songs I enjoyed: "Down To The Waterline" (which I enjoy just as much, if not more, than "Sultans of Swing"), "Wild West End", "In The Gallery", "Six Blade Knive", or "Water Of Love".

Overall, this is a very solid 4 star album.

This was definitely an interesting album. Very difficult to rate. I find some things are great, while others are...not that good.

Starting with the good: Eminem's ability to write rhymes is spectacular. I also really like his phrasing. Also on the positive side, some of the "political" songs: "Who Knew" or "The Way I Am". I also like the humor he uses in some of the songs. The lyrics of "Stan" (probably my favourite track) are also great. Apart from this, I also enjoyed some other tracks like "Kill You", "The Real Slim Shady", "Criminal", or "Marshal Mathers".

On the negative side, I'm not a big fan of the musical choices. And, to be honest, I find some of the allegedly transgressive stuff (especially when related to sex) pretty childish, or even ridiculous. The transgressive themes work better when related to violence ("Kim") or substance abuse ("Drug Ballad" is ok).

That being said, I'm already in my fifties (and I was not into hip-hop back in the nineties). I guess I would've enjoyed this much more if I had listened to this when I was in my twenties.

In any case, I think this is clearly in the 4 star range. Probably not if based exclusively on my personal taste or preferences, but this is objectively interesting and original.

First of all, let me focus on the music and forget about the nazi salutes, racist statements, and guitars with confederate flags. Otherwise, this will get 1 star.

Now, musically speaking, I really enjoyed the album. I love early Metallica albums (I think "Kill'em All" is their best album), so it's no surprise that I also liked this groove metal album.

It is between 4 and 5 stars for me. I enjoyed most of the songs: "Mouth for War", "A New Level" (great guitar intro), "Walk" (there's a good reason why this is one of their classics), "Fucking Hostile" (love the energy), "This Love", "Live In A Hole" (nice groove), or "Sorrow".

So, again, really in the 4,5 star range. Probably not enough to reach 5 stars so, at least for now, 4 stars.

It's a good album.

On the one hand, I think that three albums by this band is way too much. On the other hand, even if I can't find anything special after a first listen, their albums (this is the second one I've listened to) are somehow growing on me.

From this album, I particularly enjoyed: "Knowledge of Beauty", "Reminiscence Part Two", or "The Waltz".

So, for now, I think this is also 3 stars. However, I may revisit these ratings when listening the third album in this project.

Not really a genre I'm familiar with...but it's pretty good.

I enjoyed some of the songs like: "Um Girasol Da Cor Do Seu Cabelo", "Tudo O Que Vocè Podia Ser", "O Trem Azul", "Me Deixa Em Paz", "Clube Da Esquina N 2 (probably my favourite), "Um Gusto De Sol" (very nice instrumentation in the second half of the song) or "Trem Do Doido".

I did not like some other tracks: "Dos Cruces", "Cravo E Canela", "San Vicente".

In any case, it is interesting and pretty varied. I think it deserves, at least, 3 stars (actually, it is in the 3,5 star range for me, so this may grow on me to reach 4 stars).

Very good album. The "dialogues" between the organ and the guitar are great. The title track is very good (clearly my favourite track).

I also like the other original compositions ("Mo' Onions" or "Behave Yourself"). On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of some of the covers (like "Twist and Shout").

Overall, a solid 4-star album for me.

The BandThe Band

Rated 8/10

This is a very good album. 4 stars at least. It's interesting how the different members of the band share leading vocals (not Robbie Robertson, though).

I like most of the songs here (definitely, no filler). In particular, I enjoyed: "The Night The Drove Old Dixie Down", "Up On Cripple Creek" (probably my favourite), "Across The Great Divide", "Whispering Pones", or "The Unfaithful Servant".

Overall, this is 4,5 stars (I'll probably save the 5 stars for "Music From The Big Pink").

This is obviously a good album. However, it's not my favourite genre. I prefer the other album by Stan Getz in this same project.

All tracks are ok, nice to listen to, but I didn't find them very interesting.

Overall, this is in the 3 star range for me personally.

The music here is really "nice". Unlike other jazz albums (not sure if this is really jazz), I'd say this is more accessible for the casual listener (like myself, when it comes to this genre).

Did I like it? Definitely. Did I love it? I would'nt say so. But, in any case, I think this is very good and I'm pretty sure I will listen to this again.

In my opinion, it clearly deserves at least 4 stars.

Well...this is pretty challenginf and noisy but it is also different and, to some extent, interesting.

As someone already mentioned, this feels like the music that may be used in a contemporary video-art installation.

In any case, I think it deserves at least 2 stars. My "favourite" track was probably "Kollaps" (the cover "Jet'm", "Sehnsucht", or "" are also interesting).

Good album.

In particular, I enjoyed the singles ("Never Let Me Down Again", "Strangelove", "Little 15", "Behind the Wheels"), or "To Have and To Hold".

It in the range of 3,5 stars for me. In any case, they have a distinctive sound so, even if not my favourite genre, I think this objectively deserves 4 stars.

This is an excellent album. I had never heard of Sufjan Stevens, but this was a very nice surprise.

I like concept albums, and I found this "Illonois-based" project highly interesting. It is varied (both lyrically and musically) and the arrangements are really good. I tend to dislike long albums, but I really enjoyed this one.

Some songs I particularly enjoyed: "Concerning the UFO...", "John Wayne Gacy, Jr", "Jacksonville", "Chicago" or "Casimir Pulaski Day".

Overall, a very solid 4 star album (which may reach 5 stars after further listens).

Interesting (and very good) album.

It took me a few listens before songs in the album started to grow on me. Interestingly, I'm not a huge fan of "Howlin' for you" (though it is indeed pretty good), "Black Mud" (even if I tend to love instrumental tracks), or "Never Give You Up" (which happens to be a cover).

Actually, if the album were shorter (and we got rid of the instrumental and the cover), this may be in the range of 5 stars.

Among the songs I enjoyed the most: "Everlasting Light", "Next Girl", "Tighten Up", "Sinister Kid", "Ten Cent Pistol" (irresistible dark rythm), "The Only One" (probably my favourite, together with "Tighten Up"), "Unknown Brothers", or "These Days".

Overall, I enjoyed most of the songs and this is a solid and clear 4 star album for me.

Good album. Not very impressed after a first listen, but it got better after a couple repetitions. And, in any case, Skin's voice is really good. Very good singer.

Some tracks I enjoyed: "Charlie Big Potato", "Oh My Hotel T.V." (probably my favourite), "We Don't Need Who You Think You Are" (great vocals), "Secretely" or "You'll Follow Me Down".

Overall, this is in the range of 3,5 stars.

This is extremely easy to rate: 5 stars. One of the best albums, by one of my favourite artists.

"Subterranean Homesick Blues" and "Maggie's Farm" are among my favourite songs (ever).

But the point is that all the other tracks in this album are also great: "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)", "Gates of Eden", "Love Minus Zero/No Limit", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "It's All Over Now Baby Blue", " She Belongs To Me", "Outlaw Blues" (I love the cover by Jack White), "On The Road Again" (hilarious), "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" (fun lyrics).

It's simply a masterpiece, and extremely influential. I'm surprised this is not rated higher in this list.

This is good...but, at least for me, not very good.

They somehow manage to include some interesting arrangements in every song. However, for some reason, I'm not really connecting with the album.

Songs I like "The Bones of You", "Mirrorball", "The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver" (great title btw), "Some Riot", or " Friend of Ours" (probably my favourite).

It's in the 3 star range. The songs are ok, and the lyrics seems pretty interesting, but nothing really exciting for me.

Rated 8/10

Very good album. I like the two sides approach: Side A for the ambient/atmospheric sounds, and Side B for the more rock-oriented (but also highly experimental) music. I personally prefer side B, which I find somewhat more "interesting" (with Side A being more "easy-listening").

In side A, I particularly enjoyed "Seeland". Regarding side B, I enjoyed all three songs, with "Hero" being probably my favourite track. However, the experimentation of "E-Musik" is really worth listening. Finally, "After Eight" is probably a more "conventional" punk-rock song, but still very good.

Overall, I think this deserves 4 stars.

Very good (and interesting) album. First rock opera ever? Probably. Nice psychedelic rock.

I found this better than I expected. It reminded me of The Beatles at times (without sounding, at least to my ears, as a mere copy). Only for this reason, the album is worth at least 4 stars.

Some tracks I enjoyed: "Bracelets of Fingers" (one of the most Beatlesque songs), "She Says Good Morning", "Balloon Burning" (nice...and frantic instrumentation), "Death" (fancy a sitar? why not?), "Baron Saturday" (probably my favourite), "Trust" (probably the most "accessible" track) or "Old Man Going".

I find this very good. I know many people prefer early Elvis...and they may be right. However, this is still very good.

As far as I'm concerned, this is at least 4 stars (and probably 5 stars, even if I'm always a bit reluctant to award 5 stars to artists that don't write at least a significant share of the material they sing).

Some songs I particularly enjoy: "Wearing' That Loved On Look", "Only The Strong Survive" (nice bass), "Long Black Limousine", "I'm Moving On", "Power of My Love" (I like the production and arrangements of this track), "True Love Travels on a Gravel Road" (excellent song), or " In The Ghetto" (an absolute classic).

If we take into account some of the songs included in the later releases (like "Suspicious Minds"), this may get even closer to 5 stars.
